I went to this area of Kyoto for a Sake distillery tour and found this gem of a restaurant by accident as we were hungry and didn't want to go far to eat. Best ramen ever!!! The owner/chef was very modest and personable and I enjoyed my conversations with him while he cooked our meals. His place only has 8 seats at the counter but it is well worth the wait. We all ordered his 'standard ramen' set dinner with gyozas and fried chicken and it was anything but standard. I am a soup lover and I order soups where ever I travel in the world. His broth was the best I have ever tasted. His gyozas and chicken were also amazing. I asked him what his special ingredient was that made his broth so good. He pointed at his heart and said, "It's good because I make it with love from my heart!" How can you beat that! Read moreI have eaten in this ramen shop for five months every week. I definitely suggest this place. This place feels like home, and its food is a relief after a hard day at work. The ramen soup is delicious, and the toppings are of prime quality. It is better than an expensive ramen shop in Shijo or Kawaramachi, in my opinion. Let the owner guide you through the day’s specials, or try the set meal with Hakata ramen and karaage, the best in Demachiyanagi. The last thing about this place is that the owner will make you feel at home by always being nice...
Read moreThis is a real gem, if you want real traditional Japanese ramen. This noodle shop is a hole-in-the-wall type of neighborhood shop. It only has seating at the very cramped counter, right in front of the chef preparing your food. The interior is simple & worn down, it’s no match for those fancy or franchised shops. The menu here is very short & simple, unlike the dizzying kaleidoscope offerings at the other lux shops, but the quality of the food here is top notch & way better. If you are a noodle-head, then you wouldn’t be disappointed...
