Kawakami — Restaurant in Kyoto

If you want to feel and taste the love of your mother(s) while you’re in Kyoto, this is the real hidden-gem you have to visit! However, please spare just a little bit of your patience as these ladies who serve you are all like our mothers (not that young anymore…) :’) But, they cook with love and give you attention and care (just like my mom!) It’s summertime and when we came for lunch it was hot and humid (well not long after we sat down the rain was pouring) - it was full and the only table left was the one at the corner underneath the stairs, the server lady picked up a couple of hand-fans and told me (with super caring) to please use them coz it was hot even the aircon was barely made it. And once there was another table ready she moved us there right away. Food tasted amazing! Freshly cooked and portion is huge with a very reasonable price. Ordered the pork katsu and curry noodles-OISHII! The place is small and in the alley but it’s very convenient as it’s located just right...

This is a small little family-owned hole in the wall restaurant, run by a sweet little grandmother. We found this place by chance and went the first day to try it. The food was so phenomenal, that we immediately went again for lunch the following day. Both times, the food and service were excellent. You can tell that cooking is their passion with every bite you take. We all ordered different dishes but all came to the same conclusion - This was the best Japanese food we've ever eaten.

It gets very crowded with locals lined up around opening time, which speaks for itself. I wish I had this place next door...

This place is amazing! The owners as well as the food were wonderful. I will never forget how nice they were to me. Me and my husband were very hungry but we had a temporary problem with the bank and we could only afford one meal for both of us. The ladies were so nice, they gave us two for the price of one. We are so grateful for that, i felt taken care of in a beautiful country i had never been before. We are definitely returning and we want to return the favor in some way.
