Wow, what can I say!
Stumbled across this place on Google maps as we were staying in the area & we had no idea what to expect.
We received a warm welcome and were brought to a small private room. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic, she was very helpful & patient explaining what everything was and how to eat it! She advised us on what dishes and how many of each to order. We had an appetiser with different types of miso to try, with a beautiful powdered-miso design. Our main was honestly the highlight of our trip: traditional sukiyaki with beef & vegetables. It was such a great experience to be able to try some delicious authentic food as Irish tourists. Again, our waitress explained how everything worked extremely well and even had an English menu with some more familiar items. We had additional sides of rice & fried aubergine from this menu. The beer and plum wine were also delicious. We wrapped up the evening with some hot green tea. We felt so welcomed here & not intimidated at all as first-time travellers to Kyoto :)
Overall we had a fabulous evening here at Feliz-Malto - I rarely write reviews but this place was so special I just had to!

Read moreThis is hands down our best meal in Japan yet. We stumbled onto this restaurant after a typhoon and we could not believe our luck! The chef was so incredibly nice and seated us even though we had no reservations. He kindly explained the menu and each courses to us as he bought them out. The appetizer with the different miso from three regions was amazing! The sashimi was incredibly fresh and delicious. For our main course, we ordered the steak and sukiyaki. The steak was perfectly cooked with the most complimentary sauce and miso paste for the best bite. Oh and the sukiyaki!! That was definitely my husband’s favorite of the night hands down! You have to try this restaurant if you are in the area!!! We definitely...
Read moreFantastic dining experience with deliciously and creatively prepared food and very high quality ingredients. Service was terrific, and we were able to get a private room for five just two days ahead of time. Sukiyaki is a must, and we loved the broiled conger eel. (We also ordered grilled duck, firefly squid, grilled chicken, sashimi, pickled tofu, salmon rice, and miso cheesecake, all of which we enjoyed.) They started with an appetizer to introduce three of the misos they use, and the white Kyoto miso was just incredible. On top of it all, this spot was a great value for what they served. Couldn’t...
