After 2 weeks in Japan, this was easily the worst dining experience we had. They were nice enough to seat us without a reservation because we were early. But they told us we had a 2 hour limit. We just needed 30 minutes to eat and leave but their slow service kept us there 1.5 hours. They didn’t give us towels when we sat down and didn’t have napkins. When we asked for napkins, we got a box of tissues as “that’s all they have”. What kind of restaurant doesn’t have any way of wiping hands or face? Appetizer that saves the table came very late (after the ordered food came). 6 piece Sushi took even longer time to come. All cooked food had been eaten before sushi came even though it was all ordered at the same time. We ordered another 6 piece sushi because it wasn’t enough food and it also took ANOTHER 30 minutes to come even though the place wasn’t full, and we asked multiple times about it. Read moreWhat an amazing restaurant! Situated in a 1000 year old residential building this restaurant stands apart. The menu is in English, easy to understand and the course are a no brainer. Needless to say the sushi and set course menu was a delight. The chef and staff speak English as well. There are two different options, you can sit at the long table where you can watch the chef making your food or if there are 4 or more of you you can have a small side room but you have to sit on the floor. Read moreThanks to a recommendation from the Ritz Carlton concierge we were able to enjoy this restaurant. As we were just 2 people we sat at the counter and could chat with the chef. For bigger parties they have tables which are private and quiet.
The food was excellent, so much so that we returned a second night. There is a modest selection of sake and wine. They also serve ‘no alcohol’ beer.
