I don't understand how it has such a high rating. It's the rudest I've been treated in all of Kyoto.
He tried to make me pay 700 yen more for no reason. I only had one sandwich set, so it was pretty obvious.
Then he said, "Okay, okay (not explaining what he did wrong) but 'no set!' because when you come with two people, both have to order" (which of course makes sense!). But the second person was my 2-year-old baby! He will not eat an entire sandwich!
Also, he sits on my lap and... There was no one there! The entire place was empty.
And the sandwich was super expensive. He still tried first to make me pay more for no reason and then second make me pay more to not make my set a set. And force a 2 year old to order....

Read moreFirst off: the owner speaks fairly decent english, so the place is extremely easy for foreigners to order. He's also really friendly to the level of that alone making the place worth another trip.
The place has the same vibe as a small American diner you'd find hidden in an old town. Complete with the wall being covered in knickknacks.
And the food is also great, I had a buffalo chicken sub and it was amazing. It's a little above what I usually like paying for food, but well worth it.
It's hard for me to justify eating at the same place twice downtown, since there are so many options, but this is one I definitely want...
