Mimasuya ITALIANO Pontocho — Restaurant in Kyoto

Trust me, no matter what DO NOT go to this restaurant. I would rather eat in 7/11. First of all the whole place was definitely old and dirty. Do not go there, just because the view is nice. I ordered shrimps, they were literally mutated, fat shrimps that tasted like chickens. They were so hard and difficult to bite. I could literally feel their veins under my teeth. Next, the tatar, I thought that they made a mistake and brought someone else’s order. It was A LIVING MESS. The waitresses could not speak english, which is fine i guess many people in japan don’t speak english. But they did not even try to translate or anything. When i complained about the food they could not speak english at all but suddenly when it came down to the payment they understood everything. The Oolong tea and soft drinks were literally tasteless the glasses were filled 90% with ice 10% with the drink itself. Wagyu beef was rare although they said it would me medium-rare. it was the only restaurant out of nearly 15 in the area that could sit 6 without a reservation. we were the 2nd table, which was telling. restaurant was clean and tidy, no faults there whatsoever. wait staff were decent, but took a point off watching one open a fizzy drink sideways, while still en-route to the table, nearly spilling it on another patron. as mentioned, few tables to wait on, didn't see the need to take the risk. food was underwhelming. mozzarella and tomato starter was the best dish. every other dish was not up to scratch. mum asked how was my steak - "it's not tenderloin, it's tougherloin!" it wasn't actually tough, but but dish was lacking in flavour and texture. overall,...

Visited with family, kids don't eat a lot of Japanese food and Italian is often a good option. It was Ok. Not bad, not amazing. On par with almost every Italian restaurant in Australia. Service fine, wouldn't provide table water, had to buy a bottle at 700 Yen. Not cheap, but expected for the location. Outside seating is an extra 1000 Yen per person - hence sat inside.
