Lovely old grandpa running the shop by himself. I got there very early like 0730h. It was stocked with sweet breads. The pastry/bread are very affordable but big on taste. It is kinda interesting taste. Not super fluffy, but kinda more crumbly. Not sure how to really put it. Short crust cum Danish? Anyways, it was good even after two days in the fridge and defrosted after we flew home. Cos the uncle had a promotion of one for one bread, and I had an overdose. I explained I didn't understand Japanese, and then he asked he to take extra and showed me the English translation. How kind and honest he was!

Don’t let the low reviews deter you from visiting this sweet old man’s place. Grab a coffee and have him heat your baked goods. This is what Kyoto is all about: the locals. Boggles my mind how tourists flock all the way here just to go to a Starbucks. While objectively, he’s not winning any Michelin star from his baked goods, he’s definitely winning in charm and service. The baked goods are like what your grandpa would serve you! So good we went two days consecutively.

The bakery is nothing really fancy and a bit old but I love the chocolate danish bread and croissants in this place. I bought a lot to take home after my first bite of the pastry. Also enjoyed a conversation with the baker, he speaks English and is well-traveled. He manages the bakery all by himself, hopes he'll be able to renovate the place and improve the bakery. I'll definitely come back when I visit Kyoto again.

Don’t let this unassuming place fool you. Pastries all made by this sweet old man. Price point, super affordable, ranges from 50 yen to 200 yen. I was blown away. I got the pineapple bread (with a brulee outer shell, reminds me of a croissant with pineapple filling that had real pineapple bits) and red bean donut- both tasted delightful, not too sweet- i was disappointed in myself that i did not buy more.
