My vegan family of 5 visited this restaurant twice and overall I’d give it 3 out of 5 stars. On our first visit, we ordered the Japanese Businessman Burger, the Kitchen Barbarian Burger, and the fried soy meat. We were pretty happy with everything. The food was definitely on the oily side but since most of it was fried, it was somewhat expected. Based on that first experience, I would have given it 4 stars.
We returned a couple of nights later since we were staying nearby. Unfortunately, the second visit wasn’t nearly as good. The soy meat was sold out, so we got the same two burgers again and added chocolate chip cookies and falafel. The falafel was actually good, but the burgers were noticeably worse. The Kitchen Barbarian Burger seemed smaller compared to our first visit, and the Japanese Businessman Burger tasted different with a strange flavor. It was a letdown, especially since the food was still quite oily. Also, the chocolate chip cookies were very hard and crunchy. Another small issue was that they couldn’t bring everything out at the same time. That would have been fine, except on the first night they had brought out items marked as "appetizers" together with the main course, so the inconsistency was a little confusing.
The staff were friendly both nights, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the drop in food quality between visits made this one of our least favorite vegan restaurants during our...
Read moreHad to ride our bikes a long way to get here since closer gluten-free places were all closed. This place wasn't high on my list of restaurants to check out because I was unsure of the menu after researching online. Ordering felt a little nerve-wracking because of our wheat allergies and the strange ordering system, so I notified the staff with my very poor Japanese.
Not only did they understand, but everything came out with my husband getting his wheat bun and those of us with allergies getting our alternative versions. I usually can't stand fermented grains, so I was very nervous, but these people know what they are doing and have made me reconsider that such food CAN taste good after all!
Their hummus tasted like it had curry powder (which I love!), their wine was delicious, and our shared cheese cake was a great way to finish off our experience. My meat-eating husband couldn't believe his vegan food was as good as his favorite "real" burger joint. So this place has shot up from "maybe we'll eat there if there are other options" to somewhere we would like to return to to try their other options before we...
Read moreAs a member of our family has a severe dairy allergy, we’ve struggled with our meals here in Japan. It was so refreshing to go somewhere where ingredients were clearly marked and almost everything was dairy free! The food was delicious, we recommend the pizza (although we’d have loved the veggie pizza but sadly sold out), burger (we went for the real meat version) and the burger itself, the slaw and the mayo were divine! The chips with the homemade mayo were so yummy, I wish we could have had a bit more mayo served up! :-)We also had the avo salad rice bowl which was very tasty and filling but light at the same time. We went for the chocolate slice and cookie for desert and they were both delicious. Our dairy allergy person was so happy to have desert for once! Good selection of alcoholic and soft drinks. Lovely serving staff and they listened carefully as we explained about the allergy, double checking with the sauces. Thank you for a lovely meal! We went just as it opened at 5pm and so it was lovely and quiet and the food came quickly which was great for the children. It’s also...
