I dont understand the low ratings. I found this restaurant on my first night in Kyoto and the nice elderly gentleman (Im assuming he is the manager) gave me a leaflet. I wasnt looking to eat that time but I made sure to come back on my next night as he seems nice and the prices were quite reasonable for a set meal. I came back tonight and ordered their chicken karaage set meal, it was on my table in less than 10minutes and everything was delicious. Perfectly fried crispy chicken pieces and the miso soup was so comforting. I also ordered their yuzu shochu which was refreshing. The first one, eggplant and fried fish teishoku, was mediocre- the fish, if fish it could be called, barely had any meat on it - it was mostly batter. The second dish, a meat dish, was half-frozen. We complained; other customers did too, after lengthy waiting times for their dishes. One of the customers complained that the onions were undercooked. Ultimately, the failings of this restaurant are likely due to the incompetence of the kitchen staff, many of whom are not Japanese, not the Japanese owners whom apologised profusely. Nonetheless, this restaurant has potential, if only it could rejig its...
