The atmosphere here is very cool, but that’s unfortunately where the good experience stops.
The staff were very kind, but the service was so slow. We are patient, but it was clear our server forgot about us a few times and we had to order the same thing multiple times (such as a drink). The table next to us was served 4 times before we were able to flag down our server for water. They were busy, so we understood a bit of a longer wait, but this coupled with mediocre sushi just didn’t make a great experience.
As much as it pains me to say, I’ve had better nigiri and sashimi in Canada. I was so disappointed in the quality… It felt slapped together, with unbalanced fish to rice, and a lack of al a carte options. And the wagyu we received was essentially blue, while the table next to us seemed to have a very nicely seared wagyu. It was chewy and tough, and for the price we paid, I would’ve expected more consistency in the food.
All in all, this place is probably very impressive for tourists who haven’t had truly amazing sushi. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend...
Read moreAn absolute gem in Kyoto! We booked this new tuna cutting show restaurant and it turned out to be one of the most authentic dining experiences we’ve had in Japan. The evening started with a live demonstration where the chefs carefully cut and prepared a massive fresh tuna right in front of us — an incredible display of skill and tradition.
Every one of the five courses that followed was made from different cuts of the same tuna, each prepared in a unique way to highlight its flavour and texture. The food was unbelievably fresh, delicate, and beautifully presented.
The venue itself has a traditional Japanese layout with a warm, intimate atmosphere, and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly or enthusiastic — their energy added so much to the experience. The show was fascinating, the food outstanding, and the whole evening felt both cultural and special.
Highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto who wants something memorable, local, and...
Read moreSo far this was one of the best meals I have had in Japan. I believe that the price really is warranted for the quality of food you receive. I purchased the set plan for the highest cost which included this platter to build your own sushi. It included a appetiser of A5 Wagyu Beef as well as teriyaki beef, tempura and a dessert. For the 2 of us, including 3 beers it cost 24000 yen. Everything was fresh and the service is very attentive and all staff spoke great English. You must take off your shoes and sit on tatami mats to eat which adds something extra to the meal. There are cheaper options available if you just wish to have the sushi made for you and the prices are very reasonable for the experience. Would...
