Torikura — Restaurant in Kyoto

Quite disappointing experience at this restaurant. We went without a reservation at around 6, they gave us a table that was not up to par with any other one, the grill was not integrated in the table, we had no place to lower our legs (floor sitting) and there was no extractor for the smoke. The grill itself took a very long time to heat up to the point of sizzling when putting in meat. The chicken was average and the amount was not big. We ordered pumpkin additionally and it was a very poor serving. The chicken meatballs were quite good. The chuhai was watered down and the ‘guinnes draft beer’ was a bottle. The worst of all is that they gave us a salad that we assumed was courtesy at the begging of the meal, but we ended up having to pay for it, at ¥330 per salad, this had not happened in any restaurant before. A very special grilled chicken (Yakitori) restaurant, I saw a lot of locals went here for night gatherings. Not like normal Yakitori, you have to grill the chicken by yourself. The waiter will show you how to grill, and introduce the chicken is among the best in Japan. The chicken was presented so delicate, and the taste is also tender and juicy. I stumbled upon this place accidentally and this might be the best chicken place I have ever visited. You will have to grill the chicken by yourself and the instructions were in Japanese but my server Masaki was kind enough to walk me through the steps to get the best experience out of it. I ordered the complete set and everything was exceptionally good but I was most surprised by the chicken breast.
