Superb culture-infused hospitality, amazing cuisine, and an unforgettable experience. My parents and I traveled to Kyoto for the first time and booked a dinner at Tozentei, found on Michelin guide. What we experienced was not like any other dinning experience I had before. We were received, welcomed, and treated not like customers in a restaurant of business, but rather like guests invited to a friend's home and introduced to the cuisine they are deeply proud of. As our hosts are, just like us, a family of three, father, son, and mother, who are the chefs and the waitress, our dinning experience turned out to be just like a dinner chat with old family friends; discussing about travel, experiences, food, and once in a little bit we got to be amazed by the extraordinary dishes prepared and introduced with great passion and pride, paired with a curated selection of sakes, bringing us to the "utopia of tastes" as the meaning of the restaurant name suggests. Language is not a problem as the hosts prepared a picture book to introduce all the ingredients while letting the food speak for themselves. The almost-three hours time we spent with the chef's family absolutely redefined my understanding of what fine-dining is about, and broadened my view of the hospitality, dedication, and the pursuit of perfection, all deeply rooted in the Japanese culture. Thank you the Watanabe family so very much for the unforgettable experience! And I hope more travelers will get to enjoy your cuisine and your hospitality in the endless future just...

From the moment we stepped into this Michelin one-star gem owned by the Watanabe family, we were enveloped in a world of hospitality that surpassed all expectations. Ms. Watanabe's warm welcome set the tone, and her detailed explanations of each dish, accompanied by visual aids, added a delightful layer to the dining experience.

The exceptional food stole the spotlight—each dish was a masterpiece, skillfully prepared with the freshest ingredients and an artful combination of flavors. The presentation was a feast for the eyes, as each plate showcased the chef's dedication to perfection.

Our dining table, strategically placed next to a large window, provided a breathtaking view of the autumn leaves in the thoughtfully decorated front yard garden. The seasonal beauty outside seamlessly blended with the culinary artistry inside, elevating the overall experience to new heights.

Watanabe's Kaiseki haven is not just a restaurant; it's a journey through impeccable taste, genuine hospitality, and the enchanting beauty of nature. A truly unforgettable dining adventure.

On rainy day, a group of eight of us had the pleasure of dining under the watchful eye of the Watanabe family.

They were extremely hospitable and were also able to understand our broken Japanese. We were able to converse a bit in English and the matriach gave us descriptions of these dishes we would be having using various ingredient books, which was a great touch.

The intimate location was a great atmosphere for our lovely lunch, which was fantastic. I have been to a quite a few high-end restaurants in my time, but Tozentei easily had one of the best services I have had.

We had various dishes, primarily seafood-based, which were complex and unique to Kyoto. The antique sake tokkuri which we drank out of was beautiful and would sing as sake poured out of it.

Would absolutely return whenever I go back to Kyoto - highly...

Had an unforgettable Omakase experience at Tozentei. The location is at some residential area and therefore is a little out of the way. But those who made an effort to visit this little gem will definitely be rewarded. Run by a family unit, this restaurant emphasizes on the ingredients and the attention to details. The lady who is also the mum makes an effort to tell us the ingredients they used and how to best appreciate the dishes. The chawanmushi is probably one of the best I ever had. The tuna and uni hand roll simply melts in my mouth. The fish soup is really refreshing as the plum adds a very interesting dimension to it. The highlight has to be the salt-baked Isami Wagyu. A great way to end the night.
