Shirayuki — Restaurant in Matsumoto

Restaurants like this are why I love visiting Japan. The owners are extremely friendly, we arrived 15 minutes before opening and they saw us waiting and invited us inside.

With my broken japanese I asked for what was their specialty and ended up ordering everything you can see on the picture. It was delicious and so filling, I barely could walk after lol

The meat was tender and juicy, all the side dishes were also very tasty and the price was really low. The curry was great with a slight kick of spiciness which i love so for me it was a perfect dish.

We talked with the owners for a bit and they were so lovely, I will definitely come here again if I return to Matsumoto in the future.

A cozy restaurant run by friendly elderly people.

We ate here at around 5pm. The menu is in full Japanese and there are no photos but we based our orders by translating the menu and looking at the photos from reviews. The owners did their best to communicate with us. 😊

The meals were very filling and affordable (not to mention they were also very nutritious as there are various pickles and vegetables on the side if you order a set).

We got a yakiniku set meal, hamburger rice set meal, karaage set meal, fish set...

This restaurant has a retro atmosphere, reminiscent of a local restaurant from the Showa era. The portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are all elderly, so it may not be suitable for young people who prefer clean and modern places. I ordered the hamburger set meal and was surprised by the size of the hamburger. It came with a lot of side dishes, and I couldn't believe it was only 900 yen. The taste was like home cooking, and even though the portion was large, I was able to finish it all.
