Delicious eel, maybe the best I've had. Often eel is a bit too mushy but this place cooks it so that it's soft and juicy inside but very crispy on the outside.
Had the white eel with no sauce and a few other appetizers to start. I'd never had plain eel like that, but they cook it wonderfully and goes well with wasabi. The eggplant with miso was also delicious.
As a main I had the higher priced special eel bowl with additional eel liver. The special eel bowl is also quite a bit larger than the regular bowl, so that helps account for the extra price. Uncertain if the eel itself is any different or just larger.
It was delicious. Although everyone in our party felt gross afterwards, I think it was simply that we ate too much.
The price is the main sticking point -- it's a lot pricier than expected.
Also, you'll need reservations or will need to deal with VERY long waits (at least on...
Read moreI heard that a trip to Nagoya must include a meal of eel, so here I come. There’s a choice between “grill with sauce” 「長燒」 and “grill with salt only” 「白燒」, which is great as we can order one for each and see the difference. The eel is great and fatty, no doubt about that. Personally I like the “salt only” type, as I also prefer this choice when I order skewers in other restaurants, so I can taste the real stuff more. And most grilled eel are “with sauce” in my hometown, so I really treasure the experience here. We also ordered a prawn tempura, which I recommend as well. Since we ordered set dinner, it includes everything from sashimi to dessert so at the end it’s a very full meal and...
Read moreUnawa Meieki is a fantastic spot for grilled eel! I was very pleased with both the service and the quality of the food. A huge plus for international visitors is that they have an English menu available, making ordering easy. What I especially appreciated was the option to choose of long grilled and unflavored grilled eel – it's great to have that kind of variety. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would definitely recommend this restaurant. N.B. One correction that needs to be made on the English menu is that it mistakenly refers to a meal having both long AND unflavored eel but in fact it’s a choice of...
