Yakiniku King — Restaurant in Naha

Waitress is very rude, unfriendly and not helpful towards us who visited as tourists. We check for waiting time with her as we didn’t make online reservation. Was told to wait for an hour or so which we are not complaining. We observe that she puts on a smile towards locals but somehow is very cold towards foreigners. We are shocked with the way she serves us when we got a table finally. We try to understand what she is trying to tell us when we place order. Due to lack of understanding and communication, she suddenly slammed shut her tablet, point to the tablet on our table and ask us to order from there. She then turned and walked away. We are dumbfounded with her attitude and body language. We do not know if she has taken our order or we need to re-order our food. We then decided to eat our dinner elsewhere. One of the guy waiter then rush to entrance to stop us from leaving, highlighting that we have ordered our food. Hence we return to our table and he tries to serve us. A kind customer who is dining next to our table has walked over and explained to us in English about how to order our food. We thanked him for his help. He agrees that the waitress is rough. This restaurant is not foreigner-friendly.The ordering machines are only in Japanese, and there are no English menus available. The staff don’t speak English—or at least, they refuse to make any effort to communicate in English. Even if they seem to understand some English, they pretend not to. At the reception, customers were crowded in line, but the staff ignored them completely. The ticket machine ran out of paper, and several guests tried to get the front desk’s attention by pointing at it, but the staff didn’t care. The issue was only resolved when a customer used a translation app to explain the problem. One of the front desk staff, named “大浦”, was very friendly to Japanese customers but would instantly change his attitude when dealing with foreigners, refusing to help with anything. Even though there were many empty tables, the staff wouldn’t seat anyone. I came here around 5:45 pm on a Monday and there was no wait. We were seated and given 80 mins to order anything we wanted. We went with the premium course and order almost all the beef options. We started with the cabbage salad and cucumber salad. Amongst two people, my husband and I ordered 16 servings of meat. We made the mistake of ordering two portions per meat in the beginning, it’s better to order one at a time incase we didn’t like it. The small rice is actually a lot so I would consider sharing the rice. You have more time than you think you do, take your time ordering- we felt we needed to rush. The serving speed was average and the service was good! I think it is worth coming back when visiting Okinawa. I will say that most if not all the meats come with some sort of marinade or sauce.
