The overall rating for this place is far too high when you take into account all of the amazing options for signifcantly cheaper that Japan has to offer. I feel heavily misled and we noticed later on that this place has multiple reviews from the same people on different accounts, so this may have been intentional.
The prices are extremely high for what you get compared to anywhere else we've eaten in Japan so far. We went with 3 people and the overall cost was 4800 yen after we spent the bare minimum to just get out of the cafe. The menu was not impressive, but unfortunately one of us had submitted an order before any of us spoke up about wanting to leave. The two of us who hadnt ordered couldnt just wait for them to eat and find something else because they charge 800 yen for anyone sitting and not eating.
I paid 1580 for a single piece of french toast and a lemon soda, which I had to get because the meals are priced to include a drink. There is not an option to skip one for a cheaper price.
My sister paid 1580 for an egg salad sandwich and drink.
My husband paid 1400 for 2 small pancakes that he said tasted like cardboard and his drink.
My soda was pretty good and my husband liked his matcha milk, but note that the milk drinks are just a bunch of flavored syrup in the bottom of the cup with ice and milk on top. My husband vigourously stirred his to get it to mix, and my sister was unsuccessful so she was drinking milk with random caramel syrup chunks.
I HIGHLY recommend you find a different place to eat, as most places at this price point so far have been far nicer with much better meal options.
EDIT: Reduced to 1 star now because this place can't take criticism and responds to every negative review with notes about how their business is being hurt and claiming the information in the review isn't factual.
It was absolutely not obvious that the menu could be reviewed from outside, and we were fully aware of the table charge. I was complaining about being stuck ordering because my sister had just ordered when we finally decided we didnt want to be there. It is the only restaurant in our whole 2.5 week trip to Japan that we wanted to leave once we walked in, and again, the overall rating of this place is too high.
A place should not be charging as much as this one if its using pancake mix. Just make them from scratch; it barely adds more ingredients and would likely cost less for the restaurant to produce. My husband is not picky and has a strong sense of taste and smell; he picks up on way more subtle flavors than the average person. If he says the pancakes tasted like cardboard, they were BAD.
Please explain the insane choice to make chunks of caramel with milk part of the drink design. It's objectively gross.
Its also suspicious that they took the time to refute valid criticism of their food and drinks but did not at all address the fake reviews from the same name on different profiles pushing their...
Read moreThis review is long overdue. We had the pleasure of dining at Peri Cafe in July of 2024. They were walking distance from where we stayed. The cafe is small, very cute and very French. The food was lovely, delicious and beautifully plated. Service was efficient and polite. The portions were generous and a welcome change from the ordinary. Don't get me wrong, we love Japanese food and we tried as many forms of it as we could get....much to our delight. But when we learned about the Japanese/French connection regarding cuisine, we just had to try some, and Peri Cafe was a delightful introduction. It was so nice we did it twice. The online menu was a bit unclear, but Ms. Perika and her staff were very willing to help us order. Basically each person has to order something. Ms. Perika asked us to show her where we were from on the map and I believe we were her first Trinidadian visitors. Unbelievably, they were familiar with Trini doubles, thanks to an influencer that they follow. We truly enjoyed our trips to Peri Cafe!
To Ms. Perika and her helper (sorry I didn't get your name) I hope one day you may be able to visit Trinidad and that you get to try doubles yourself.
All the best...
Read morePoor Service and Excessive Pricing - A Disappointing Experience
Peri Cafe offers subpar service and underwhelming food quality at inflated prices. During my extended stay in Japan, I've consistently experienced the wonderful spirit of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality), but this place broke that streak. The staff were inattentive and unwelcoming, while the food was ridiculously overpriced for both portion size and quality. Even the atmosphere wasn't particularly special - certainly not enough to justify the premium pricing.
There are several superior dining options in the vicinity that I would recommend exploring instead.
After posting this review, I received a public response from the cafe. Rather than addressing the feedback with humility or concern, the reply seemed more focused on denying any possibility of customer dissatisfaction—suggesting that expecting decent service might be “demanding too much.”
I’ll let future guests decide whether that kind of attitude reflects the omotenashi spirit they claim...
