I saw some comments about not understanding the hype. I have the same feeling too. If you prefer good experience and atmosphere, you may wanna choose another restaurant. To simply conclude, service was bad and the food was pre-cooked - meaning that it’s simply served on a hot plate and you can’t fry the konomiyaki like other restaurant should usually offer.
We made a reservation with them in advance. We patiently waited for the food to serve and once we started our first course, the waitress asked to us to move to another small table because they wanted to serve a bigger group. We did share sympathy for them so we agreed. But the problems were: i) she didn’t take all of our dishes to the new table so we had to take some of them ourselves because she prioritized serving the the bigger group; ii) we had to eat our food on the plate that just recently reheated.
This would be forgiven if the food was really great but it wasn’t unfortunately. Everything was pre-cooked so you wouldn’t be able to experience the authentic frying on your own. Since it’s already “well-done”, the extra heat on the plate simply just burned the konomiyaki, making it super hard to eat and bitter even. (Comparing to other places where you can fry it yourself, you will have the perfect, fluffy and unburned konomiyaki)
Trust me you will have better option elsewhere (maybe local stalls). Think twice...
Read moreLocated in the Herbis basement (I think), easy to find and lots of other choices there if you can't get in. There was a line as it's not super large inside and quite popular. Okonomiyaki is the main fare here, and the Osaka style ones take a long time to cook (30-40m), so be prepared for a wait. Maybe order some sides and a beer. The food was great and the prices food, but sadly only those sitting at the chef's counter will get the proper okonomiyaki experience (Teppanyaki) where it's cooked right in front of you. For the side tables, they just bring it over and finish it...
Read moreThis Okonomiyaki speciality restaurant is located in Herbis Plaza, B1 floor, near the Ritz Carlton hotel. Ordered directly from their lunch menu an Okonomiyaki set with gyoza that comes with rice, salad and miso. Tastes not bad. They have English menu ok request and accept all kinds of payment method. Visited this place because Osaka is quite famous for “pancake” even though personally I’m not a big fan of flour based savory pancake. Worth a try if you are nearby. They also have steak options...
