Dexter Diner — Restaurant in Osaka

I hate to give small business such stark poor reviews but this case was so egregious I can't hold back.

Craft burgers have become a popular thing in Japan these days. Dexters seems to have jumped on the bandwagon - captured the look, from kitchy Americana decor to melting cheese and hand made buns, but sorely failed to capture the flavorful heart of a classic American burger.

The beef patty was so tough and chunky, that it required an effort to bite into and chew. The flavor was at best neutral. Could have been remedied by a little katchup, but they did not even have katchup. I know some abuse and overuse it, but the acids in katchup provide a brightness in the classic bun, beef, lettuce, tomato formula that is essential. What is a burger without katchup?! I could accept an anti-katchup stance if it was backed up by flavor that stood independently, but this burger did not.

I was there on a busy Saturday afternoon, so why the old limp fried potatoes? With a continuous turnover of customers that day potatoes should have been crispy and fresh.

Came on a Sunday and lined up for about 40 minutes. Worth it!

Extensive menu, including a seasonal burger. Everything homemade and homegrown, and the care definitely comes through!

This place offers excellent burgers all handmade. It's small (about 12 seats) so there is often a wait. The wait is worth it. Burger buns are fresh and home made and the burgers absolutely delicious. Burgers do not come with onions but there are plenty of options and a double patty is possible. Not a place for a leisurely...
