An Amazing Spot in Osaka: ODORU with Tamie What a find! ODORU isn't just a restaurant; it's a truly special experience, and Tamie, the chef, is incredibly talented. I went in solo, and it honestly felt like being welcomed into a friend's home—even better, really. Tamie's warmth and genuine enthusiasm made the whole evening feel incredibly personal and memorable. The idea of a fermentation-heavy tasting menu with an all-vegan approach is truly unique and impressive in Osaka. Every dish was a delicious adventure, pushing my taste buds in the best way. Flavors changed dynamically throughout the meal; it was absolutely delightful. And the natto! I've always been a little iffy about it, but Tamie transformed it into something genuinely enjoyable for a Western palate. She perfectly balanced its raw intensity with other flavors, making it a perfect introduction. Her vegan dashi for the miso soup was another highlight—she absolutely nailed that! I also loved the tart sprouted grain sake she served; it was unlike anything I'd ever tasted, in the best way. What makes Tamie so special is her dedication and how on-point she is. She's clearly passionate about what she does and super knowledgeable about her vegan menu. She genuinely cares about her guests and her art, and it shines through in every detail. As a stranger, I left feeling so invested in her success—the experience was just that impactful. If you're looking for an unforgettable and unique dining experience in Osaka, you've got to check out ODORU. Tamie’s talent, her amazing food, and her genuinely kind spirit make this place a must-visit. You won't regret stepping out of your comfort zone...

If you're vegan or vegetarian and want some authentic and delicious food in Osaka in a cosy and personal setting, look no further - book your reservation! 💖

We've had the pleasure of eating at Tamie's restaurant during our Osaka trip and it's been honestly the culinary highlight of our trip - and we've had a LOT of good food in the days before.

After a short search (take the spiral staircase upstairs one floor and go down the corridor, the door is to the left) - we've got there and were greeted warmly by the chef, Tamie.

Over the course of the evening, we had serval amazing plant-based dishes, prepared on several Buddhist principles (5 flavours, 5 colours, none of the 5 "pungent" roots). Each dish was explained to us in detail and we could watch it being prepared. Tamie shared a lot of her expert knowledge about ingredients and local food and habits with us.

The food isn't only delicious, it's also beautifully presented 🌸

My partner had the sake pairing and received three delicious and varied sakes, and I had my meal with a delicious tea pairing with free refills. I loved the carefully selected and delicious teas, especially the red bean tea!

The venue itself doesn't fit more than 5 guests, so it's a really personal experience. We've only shared the space with one other guest, so we had some friendly conversations over the evening.

Highly recommended for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores looking for food prepared by a local chef with a...

If you are looking for an unforgettable culinary and cultural experience in Osaka, ODORU is a must. This is not just a restaurant — it’s an immersive journey into the refined world of Shojin Ryori, Japan’s traditional plant-based cuisine, prepared with seasonal Kansai ingredients and centuries of culinary wisdom.

Every dish is meticulously crafted, beautifully presented on traditional lacquerware, and accompanied by the chef’s engaging explanations of the history, ingredients, and cultural significance behind it. The tasting menu unfolds like a story, with flavors and textures evolving course by course, each complemented by expertly selected sake that perfectly matches the food’s character.

The setting is intimate and elegant, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place where time slows down, where the connection between food, history, and mindfulness is deeply felt. Even for those who are not vegan, the creativity, depth of flavor, and presentation are remarkable — proving that plant-based cuisine can be every bit as indulgent and satisfying as any other.

With limited seating and a reservation-only policy, ODORU ensures a bespoke, personal experience. It’s ideal for travelers seeking not only exceptional vegan dining, but also a genuine cultural encounter in the...
