A little bar with a nice atmosphere and original decoration whose specialty is fried chicken (called karaage). I've had the tar tar namba fried chicken which had a nice taste, the homemade tar tar sauce that went with it was pretty good and added a fresh flavor to the meal and made it quite enjoyable. There are a few negative things to note though, first, there really was a lot of sauce and it was sometimes just overriding the taste of the chicken and dulled it's crispyness which is a bit of a shame for a fried chicken. Aside from that, the real bad point is the service, I understand that it is a small shop operated by one man but the minimal requirement wasn't met for us. Waiting isn't a problem in itself however the chef didn't acknowledged us even though we entered before a group of 4 and were already waiting for 10 to 15 min ready to order. The chef just took the 4 people group order first, then us and of course served the other group first. We had to wait for almost 50 min before our meal finally arrived which messed up our schedule for the afternoon. Waiting in itself isn't a problem, but waiting for a really long time, being ignored and served last even though we got in first really is frustrating. The minimal service should at least to be acknowledged with the right order.
Edit : In response to the owner review, it seems I didn't notice the side note they are talking about, even so, I did wave at them when they glanced at our direction, that's when they started to take orders starting from the group of 4. I understand that everyone has their way of doing things but you can't expect everyone to understand it at a first glance. Perhaps it did work perfectly until today, still, I'm pretty sure in the context of a customer, waving should imply that I'm ready or need help at the very least. As for the food, well I'm not a cook and it seems I had misplaced expectation, know that it...
Read moreWhat an amazing little spot and such a charming owner, Johnny. We visited last evening, but they were closed for a private event. Our kids came by later and got the #13 Pepper Chicken w/Honey Mustard Sauce. Our daughter said it was “the best chicken she’s ever tasted”, which says a lot since dad owns an award-winning chicken wing restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (Wilton Wings). So, of course we returned today and were waiting at the door 5 minutes before he opened. We ordered the #11 Yummy Sauce Chicken, #12 Tartar Chicken Nanban, #24 Dashi Momo, and #25 Kawapari Chips… paired with his homemade wasabi salt…WOWZA!! It was so good, we bought a kilo to sell at our own restaurant. Congratulations on your anniversary...
Read morePossibly the best Karaage in Osaka. I know that's a big claim but Johnny's Karaage is second to none, perfect marinating, perfect deep frying, perfect sauces, and his wasabi salt is pretty special. Always locals and tourists there. I highly recommend the yuzu kosho Karaage, as well as the "yum" chicken. The interior is friendly and fun, with 80/90's tunes on the radio. Johnny even has his own Spotify list you can follow! Super friendly guy that makes jokes with customers and can pour a mean highball. Would give this place 10stars if I could. The Karaage is good enough to earn the first Michelin star...
