Yakko — Local services in Osaka

With only around 10 seats, it is a small kushikatsu restaurant owned by one family. The service is nice and friendly to locals (so get prepared if you are tourist which do not speak any Japanese). Customers and owner got friendly chats when cooking.

All menu items are written in Japanese and some hidden menu which you can order to owner if you see the fridge has it (which i ordered scallops by listening to another order from a Japanese sit near the fridge)

The food is quite nice (and Hot!) as all are freshly fried with thin layer of the batter. It was not tough and overcooked. Chicken (tori) and shrimp (ebi) should be the must try items while their vegetables such as eggplant and asparagus is also...

One of the better places for kushikatsu. Love the place as its small and cozy, about 4-6 seats infront of the counter and each counter have an old chef frying the food infront of you and they close early! It is not a place for folks not used to traditional japanese shops eg no english menu, chefs speak loudly and likely you would smell of fried food after that. But you can get by if you can read and speak simple japanese. Usual rules not double dipping, the food is fried right infront of you, when you order it. I really enjoyed my experience here. It’s a very local place and you feel it when you open the doors. It’s what I imagine it was like in the Showa era, which feels nostalgic to me. The lovely lady and her son (?) are there to fry up whatever meat or vegetable you’re craving.
