Wow, what an incredible dining experience at Shibusuki. This place is hidden behind an obscure door up on the third floor that you would totally miss if you weren’t looking for it. Bar seating + a couple of tables, but you definitely want to sit at the bar if you can. The staff are so sweet and friendly and the owner, Ryu, is an absolute gem of a human. He made it a point to come over and chat with us even though we had a bit of a language barrier. You can tell he really cares about everyone who comes in to his restaurant and even with the language barrier, we were still able to communicate and you can see his passion for food with how delicious everything tasted.
Speaking of food (and drinks), we got the shabu shabu and it was so wonderful! Some of the best wagyu we’ve had in Japan and everything was prepared so thoughtfully. Ryu even recommended some additional fish and paired a delicious sake to go with our dinner. The yuzu sour was also very yummy. We also got the octopus in ponzu sauce for an appetizer (delicious) and the chicken gyoza isn’t like your typical North American gyoza - texture is a bit different but nonetheless delicious.
If you have a chance, I would definitely recommend checking...
Read more10/10 for the food, staff and vibes. However, smoking is allowed indoors so if that bothers you… this might not be the place for you.
I went for dinner at 6:15 and was the only one there so I was not bother by the cigarette smoke.
I also did not make a reso but you can if you want. I got the shabu shabu for one person and it was very straight forward (came with veggies, tofu and kuroge wagyu aka Japanese black wagyu, sesame paste sauce and ponzu sauce ), it was delicious and reasonably priced.
Not only that but you get an intimate bar vibe with great staff who are so friendly and sweet. Shout out to Kyoko and Ryu :)
If you book online - there are set menu options that include all you can drink, it’s not something offered on their physical menu in the resto.
To conclude, I highly recommend this resto. I keep reading about other places where the staff are rude to foreigners, the service is poor or the beef offered is a scam so I was on the hunt for a place that was rated well on tabelog and google and had friendly staff. I’m so happy I landed on this...
Read moreHighly recommend this lovely bar! We went there on both nights (second and last night in Osaka) because we absolutely loved the no-frills, clean tasting food, vibes and especially the lovely staff! Tucked away on the third floor of a small building near Utsubo park, Shibusuki is truly a hidden gem. You’ll get to experience true Osaka food and culture as a local would! The staff are all so friendly and spoke excellent English. They saw us took a photo, so they offered to take one together with us! My dad is an elder, so at the end, all the staff even walked us down the stairs and waved us goodbye. Truly a special way to end our Japan trip! Thank you Misaki, Youka, Lina and Ryu. You guys truly are a lovely team. We will share this location to our friends when...
