Really fancied trying something traditionally Japanese and thought teppanyaki would be ideal. Always wanted to try it cooked by a professional. My chance.
This restaurant, located in the shopping arcade of the RIHGA Royal Hotel, has an excellent reputation, so seemed a good option.
Visited on a Saturday evening and was able secure a table with no reservation. A good start.
The ambience of the restaurant is welcoming, divided into smaller sections, eat with their own chef manning the grill. Although rooms are shared between patrons, partitions are used to good effect to give privacy. This is very respectful of patrons and I applaud it.
A wide array of options in the menu, all sounding superb - as this was our first time we opted for the teppanyaki menu, at around ¥18,000 each. This offered several courses, including wagyu fillet.
Being teppanyaki, a part of the joy is watching the chef create the meal in front of you. He works the hot grill with a seasoned professionalism. Compelling to watch.
The chef starts by making garlic chips, these smell wonderful and come into their own. I love garlic. The smell and the taste. Yum. Garlic heaven.
To begin the food, cuttlefish and the fish of the day are prepared - this was cooked before us and grilled expertly. Iâve never had cuttlefish before but it was decent and the days fish flaky and flavourful. Tasty.
The main course, the beef, oozed quality. The chef expertly preparing the steak to the desired finish, alongside potato, aubergine and lotus root. Such succulent meat, it was melt-in-the-mouth taken to a new level of sublime. Alongside the steak, sticky rice, Japanese beetroot and soy. I cannot emphasise enough the quality of the beef.
Following the meal, a small dessert, themed around the noble mango, was served.
To drink, a beer - as I recall this was Asahi. Drunk in its home nation though, so all things can be new again.
Overall, this was an excellent meal and experience. The serve, throughout the meal, was excellent and I commend the staff for it. The young couple sharing the grill clearly also enjoyed excellent service.
Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Firm two paws...

The courses came very quickly, they were small size (fine) but the whole dinner (with a couple beers, no wine) cost over 70,000 Yen (over 500$) for 2 people. It was very good and well prepared, but not fabulous enough for this amount of money. Neither the experience/service, the actual product or the amount came close to being price for value versus other...
