Restaurant is at level 2. You may miss it if it is not for the long queue formed with people standing along the staircase. Expected to queue even on weekday evening. Google map indicated they have another branch Suage2 in the adjacent building level 4, however, it was found permanently closed. Queue moved fast within 20min with 8 people in front. We were given the English menu while waiting in queue. We ordered lamb, vegetarian and shireitoko chicken curry at spicy level 5,4,3 respectively. If you are not into spicy food, level 3 will be mild. If you can handle Xin ramen, you may be able to do level 5. Max is level 10. Not our usual Japanese curry as the soup is clear and the spice comes from the herbs rather than chili. The heat comes after. Meat was seared before putting into the soup so the charred bits added depth to the overall taste. Lamb was tender and not too gamey. A good serving size of vegetables eg pumpkin, carrot, corn, brinjal, bell pepper, etc. Rice comes with the mains and can choose either 150 or 200g serving size. You pay 100yen more if upsize to 350g. The reception counter is cramp and high traffic, so if you crowd around it and hinder the flow, the waiters will rush you out.

A visit to Suage was a nice addition to our itinerary in Hokkaido. The soup, vegetables, mushroom, and meat - practically everything in the bowl - gave a sense that Suage valued preparing the food carefully. I ordered the パリパリ知床鶏のカレー (crispy Shiretoko chicken curry) and I personally liked the big slice of pumpkin and the tasty grilled chicken in skewers. The latter though left me wanting more because of the small serving size. The highlight of the meal, and rightly so, was the curry soup. It may be my imagination but it had a hint of tamarind. As I slurped the soup, an image of Thailand’s tom yum goong and the Philippines’ sinigang flashed into my mind. Regarding the soup’s hot and spicy level, I chose 辛口, thinking it would be really hot based on the illustration in the menu. I should have chosen the maximum level because as it turned out the taste guide was still based on Japanese palate standards.

Came on a Sunday evening around 5:30pm. We were seated by 6pm and food was served by 6:15pm. Wait time wasn’t as long as expected! After reading mixed reviews from google, I came with a lower expectation. HOWEVER!! The whole experience was a lot better than expected. Thanks to that one reviewer who highly recommended the pork, IT’S REALLY WELL DONE!! Pork was so soft and well marinated, and you don’t taste the porky taste! Also, thanks to that one reviewer who recommended adding lemon to your rice. It sounded weird at first, but it really changes your palette and helped managed the spice from the curry! Last but not least, I got level 6 spice. The spice starts to kick in half way thru the meal. Hence it’s bearable spice and still delish! Just note that this is not your typical japanese curry, it doesn’t have that thick gravy. It’s lighter and more soupy!

I was so excited to have soup curry in Sapporo, and this was rated one of the most popular places. We went to Soup Curry Garaku first but they were sold out, so we came here. The line was very long and it was freezing outside, but at this point we were resigned to waiting. Finally after 30-40 minutes we got seated. We ordered the chicken karaage and pumpkin and potato mochi to start. All were good, the potato mochi probably the best. Then we got pork belly soup curry and added maitake mushroom. The vegetables were well cooked but cut very large, making it difficult to eat. The pork belly was good but quite soft as opposed to crispy. The soup broth was tasty, but there wasn’t enough broth to balance out all the things in the soup plus the rice. Overall, I enjoyed it and still came away a fan of soup curry. However I’m not sure this place was worth the wait.

The shop is on the 2F and is only accessible by stairs - the staircase is located inside the building and you should look out for the shop's logo outside the building. Visited on a Saturday evening around 7pm and it was quite a wait (around 20 mins) - the end of the queue was at the 1F staircase landing. The waiter passed us the English menu while we were in the queue and took our orders when we reached the head of the queue. Took around 10 mins for the food to arrive at our table after we got our seats. Ordered the Crispy Chicken & Vegetables as well as the Braised Pork curry. Asked for the largest rice serving as well as cheese on rice. Although we ordered (5) very spicy, it was not too spicy but rich in flavour. The yoghurt drinks go well with the curry as well. They have 2 other outlets which are nearby and the locations are posted in the shop.

3.5 stars If you want a large volume of food and to feel really full this is the place to go. I really like their soup curry and it was full of a lot of punch. You can really customize it and make it really spicy. They're vegetables are deep fried on wooden skewers and put into your soup curry. It was really satisfying and nice but my stomach felt a little bit strange afterwards because the oil might not have been the freshest. You can get optional pickles and sambal sauce on the side and I thought it was quite good. I don't really recommend this fried potato fritter because it was quite greasy. It's an optional side dish you can order. The service was pretty good but I didn't like how the ambiance was so busy and the staff seemed a bit stressed out and running around everywhere. It's crazy popular so if you go during a meal time expect to wait.
