Bagpipe — Restaurant in Takayama

The old waitress of the store is rude. She discriminates non-Japanese customers. We waited for a long time but nobody actively asked us what we wanted to order, but the Japanese at the next table were immediately served. I am a fan of Hyouka and when I was leaving a message on the notebook. The waitress took the notebook and pen from my hand and gave it to other Japanese customers. I just held the notebook for about 10 minutes. No one told us there is a time limit. I and my friend ordered 2 cakes and 3 drinks. We only stayed in the shop for about 50 minutes and I haven’t finished my drink. The waitress told us “There are still people waiting outside” while cleaning the table next to us. I visited it because the famous cafe scene from Hyoka was set in there and was amazed that it looked exactly how it was pictured in the anime. The Viennese Cocoa that Chitanda ordered still exists on the menu. I thought it might not be my fav type of drink but I totally loved it! Also, even the cup I got it in was exactly as in anime 😲 There's also a big stack of notebooks where fans can leave a word. Hyouka aside, it was very cosy and the waitress was really nice! I'll come again when I'm in Takayama!

One nitpick: I wish the menu wasn't permanently placed under the glass tabletop. It takes out the charm of the dark...

Cozy Coffee

Overall Enjoyment (+1): Quiet, quirky interior. Great coffee, nice employees. Cakes were average. Overall, the interesting interior and coffee quality won me over.

Value (0): Two small slices of cake and two coffees for close to $20USD. A tad high in my opinion.

Environment (+1): Quirky, interesting interior as I mentioned above. Various clocks and cuckoo clocks on the walls, I found myself looking around at all the wall decorations.

Quality (+1): Great coffee! The baked cheesecake was quite good as well. Though I'm not sure if any of it is made there.
