Le Midi — Restaurant in Takayama

Ambience is good but environment seems dirty. There is a living cochroach in our dish. We return the dish but the restaurant only "changes a clean plate", the food which puluted by cochroach is remained (I'm very sured becauae we put a golden leave in returned and it becocomes a note). NO APOLOGY from anyone, and they insist charge us the full price for meal.

Although the birthday surprise is very good. All of all the food hygien is a concern. I can't imagine this happenes in Japan. This is not a cheap restaurant. I feel very disappointed about the service.

AUG 2 2023 update :

Let me explan what happens if you want the detail. The small cochroach is not there in the beginning, but it "fell" from the high ceiling (or from the fan, we didnt know) to my husband's main dish. Because it is alive ! So the cochroach climbing to the edge of dish and running on the table ! My husband didn't see the cochroach untill I shout out, anyway he killed the small animal. Then I call the wittress and show her the dead cockroach. I didn't want to say more because there are so many other guests. I believe the couple who sit next to us also witness the whole incident.

At first moment my husband only saw cochroach running on table, he didn't notice the cochroach also climbing in his main dish. That is why he say it is OK in the beginning. We dont want to disturb the other guests so we only discuss in our language.

Then he told me why he not willing to return the dish in the beginning, because he didn't know the roach already in the food, another reason is, that day is hisbirthday. We bring 金箔（golden leave) from Kanezawa which written the word 寿（celebration) and just 3 minutes before put the 金箔 on his dish( I can upload the photo). But I persuade him so finally we return the dish.

It is not expected but anyway the dish come back with 金箔. 金箔 is very fragile and easy to be broken. So I dont know what people did in the kitchen. My conclusion is they might not do anything.

Although the incident, we enjoy the food, we love the service. BUT I still have to point out the weakness of management.

I will change the comment to 4 stars. Please be aware of hygien management in the future.

氣氛好但環境似乎不乾淨。我們的餐點裡有一隻活蟑螂，反映之後餐廳把菜回收換新，但只“換了一個新盤子”，食物仍然是原本的那份沾到蟑螂的（我很確定，因為為了慶生，我有在食物上自己加了在金澤買的寫了壽字的金箔，結果廚房重新送上的第二份餐廳，那張金箔還是在）。從頭到尾，餐廳沒有為蟑螂事件提出任何道歉或補償，沒有人說對不起，餐點收取全價，沒有任何折扣。

雖然事先安排的生日驚喜很好，但無論如何，食品衛生是很大的問題。我無法想像，在衛生大國日本，這種事件居然如此處理。這不是一個廉價食堂而是正式餐廳，我對服務感到失望。

2023年8月2日更新 ：

讓我說明一下到底發生什麼事情。菜剛送上來的時候是正常的，但一隻小蟑螂從天而降，或許從天花板（或屋頂的電風扇，我不知道）掉到我先生的主菜裡。那是活的蟑螂！它從盤子邊緣掙扎爬出來並且在桌上亂跑！我先生沒發現整件事直到我開始尖叫，但總之他徒手幹掉了這隻小動物。我呼喚店員並且秀給她看死蟑螂，由於旁邊客人很多，不想引起騷動所以我並沒有說太多。但鄰座的一對情侶客人應該已經見證整個事件。

第一時間我先生並沒注意到，那隻蟑螂不是只在桌上跑而已，而是根本已經掉到主菜裡。所以剛開始他才對店員表示OK 沒關係。由於不想驚擾其他客人，我開始用中文跟他溝通。

結果他告訴我，為什麼他一開始不願意換菜？除了是不曉得蟑螂已經掉進食物裡，還有一個理由。這天是我先生的生日，我們從金澤帶了上面寫了 “寿”字的金箔做紀念，幾分鐘前才放在他的主菜上 （我可以上傳照片）。但總之我說服了先生，所以最後我們決定退回主菜。

我沒預期到的是，但新的主菜換好回到桌上，那片金箔居然還是在啊！大家都知道金箔有多脆弱易破，所以廚房做了什麼呢 ?...

Amazing western style dinner! I live in Japan and it was nice to have this large of a nice steak prepared so well for a change. I tend to eat more yakiniku here. Had A5 fillet and Tobi sirloin meals. I preferred the fillet personally because it has a little less fat.

The veggies that came with the steak were so delicious! The set was a larger portion of food than expected. I could not finish all of it, even though I really wanted to.

The gelato was yummy.

We got the pumpkin dessert take out and ate it the next day. It was so good! There is a molasses syrup as the topping...

Definitely one of the missing gems for your Hida beef carnival in Takayama area! Everybody goes for Japanese style for the beef like sushi, BBQ or ramen. Yet Hida steak is certainly underrated. My husband and I would give this Hida steakhouse in French style a 10 stars! We ordered an A5 and A4 set for dinner. The high quality of Hida beef, not to mention their Japanese fusion side dishes were surprisingly awesome, brought us a fulfilling night. They did a great balance to smooth out the grease with the yuzu and black vinegar sauce. What a lovely evening....
