TAKAYAMA Cafe — Restaurant in Takayama

Had lunch on end of March 24 there, great food, unexpected.. We went to second floor for the cafe as in the ground floor sell coffee and light meals. Interior design was nice, spacious, woody minimalist modern with still a strong Japanese senses. We are not beef eaters but still decided to try their Takayama Hida Beef -- Sirloin Steak and Meat Hamburg Steak cheese cream sauce. The beef texture and taste was so good, beyond our expectation, cheese cream sauce was not heavy, just melted yummy. My bestie-girl best friend also surprised, so far we ( not really foodies) only knew Kobe beef.. If you like coffee after lunch, prepare enough time to have a long queue downstairs as the cashier is also the barista..he did his best but still a bit too long for a cup of coffee :) Overall, well...

This café stands out with its charming traditional exterior, blending seamlessly into the historic streets of Takayama. Inside, however, the atmosphere shifts — the interior is spacious, clean, and modern, offering a comfortable contrast to the bustling alleys just outside.

The menu features a good selection of drip and specialty coffees, but once again, there’s no espresso to be found, which might disappoint some coffee lovers. They also serve matcha drinks and ice cream. Unfortunately, both the coffee and ice cream were fairly average in taste — we've definitely had better elsewhere.

What makes this place worth a visit is the calm and quiet ambiance. While the streets of the old town can be packed with tourists, this café offers a peaceful spot to sit down, relax, and plan...

Was there for late lunch today. The pork cutlet sandwich we ordered was not well cooked as the middle part of it still raw and I wasn’t able to chew it. Feedback to cashier, the helpful lady offered a refund or to cook the meat again. I opted for refund. However, shortly after that, their young chef came out with a very unhappy face and start typing on his phone with a translation app and insisted this is the texture and quality of the pork hence the pork has no problem and refuse to refund me and did not offer any solutions. The whole communication was arrogant and rude!

Hope they can improve in the future especially on the customer...
