Review of Mom’s Touch Shibuya

I recently checked out Mom’s Touch in Shibuya, and honestly, it lived up to the hype. As someone who enjoys Korean fried chicken, I was curious to see how this popular South Korean chain translated in Tokyo, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The place is right near the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, so it’s super easy to find. The restaurant itself has a cool retro-futuristic vibe, and the three-story space feels open and lively. There’s even this quirky little feature where your receipt prints with a black-and-white photo of you, which I thought was a fun touch.

Now, onto the food. I had their signature Thigh Burger, and wow—it was massive. The chicken thigh was crispy, juicy, and had the perfect level of spice. The pickles and secret sauce balanced out the heat nicely. I also tried their Yangnyeom Chicken (sweet and spicy), and it was flavorful without being overly sweet, with a satisfying crunch.

They had some Japan-exclusive menu items too, like the Bulgogi Burger, but I didn’t get around to trying it. Definitely something for next time. The portions are big, so you’re getting good value for your money, especially in Shibuya where meals can get pricey.

The only downside was the wait. It’s super popular, so it was pretty packed when I went. But honestly, the food was worth it.

It's good but I don't understand why the current average rating is 4.7 with 1000+ reviews. It's just a basic fast food restaurant. The chicken burger is better than McDonald's - which is normal as this is this chain's specialty. It's comparable to KFC.

Prices are advertised as cheap, butare actually similar to McDonald's or KFC. They also have a short sentence on their flyers "the portions might be larger than expected and the taste might be better than expected for the price, we apologize in advance." But the portions are actually not very large (the regular fries you get in the set is smaller than McDonald's, for example). And as mentioned above, the taste is good for a fast food chain, but nothing to really boast about.

Service was so so, with a confusing system where you are guided downstairs to order at a machine, then wait until you see your number on a screen, then need to go back upstairs to pick your tray.

The only reason I can find to explain the 4.7 average rating at the time of writing this review is an over-hyped launch (first restaurant in Japan) and support on an army of fans of whatever comes from South Korea, from K-Pop to K-Drama and K-Fastfood.
