I went to Gold finger for the first time 6 years ago, then moved to Tokyo and went there quite often, but in the past two years it has become a very bad place to go. Drinks The drinks are super bland. Their drinks have been more expensive than normal bars by 2 or 3 hundred yen, but still quite bland, especially today after the pride, everyone went to nichome only to pay for the drinks that are watered down heavily. The owner I think her sole focus is on moneymaking. There was one time I just finished a drink and wanted to chat with my friends, she came over and said loudly: this is a bar, do not chat all the time, you have to buy alcohol to drink. It was… quite disappointing. Also you will have to buy another drink to reenter if you dare to step outside to get some fresh air. PLUS! Because she opened a new LOVE HOT bar, and apparently no one wants to go, she has been advertising it every FIVE FUCKING MINUTES. Music paused, girls were forced to listen to the announcement of LOVE HOT. It was freaking loud and hurt my ears. Some people put on their noise-canceling headphones on the spot. Like this is SUPER ANNOYING! The owner is so money hungry, they have opened a food stand where 1000 yen can buy you three skewers of chicken. not allowed to drink outside Sometimes it was too packed and I just wanted some fresh air and I took my glass out (in case they accuse me of not buying a drink), the staff would ask us not to drink outside. Hello? Do you think I’d just run off with your glass or what??? Women only Saturday I do understand that after all, making money is a priority but even on Saturday, there are still men who come in (STRAIGHT MEN). May I ask what happened to the safe space for women??? 5.music OMFG not even pretending, they knew lesbians would pour in after pride, they didn’t even bother to put on some good songs. APPROXIMATELY TEN SONGS WERE ON REPEAT AND IT WASNT EVEN THAT QUEER. BABY BY JUSTIN BIEBER? WHERE ARE SONGS BY QUEER ARTISTS??? WHERE IS CHAPPELL ROAN, GIRL IN RED AND SO MANY MORE OPTIONS??? The fact that Gold Finger has been the most famous and longstanding lesbian bar in Tokyo or even the whole Japan doesn’t cancel out the poor customer service. I think the biggest problem is the owner. I really hope that this bar can prosper, but I also hope that the owner can remember their 初心 and create a safe space for all the queer women. The customers who go there are still friendly...
Read moreThis place is rammed every night, so the bartenders don’t care. A chick called キエン literally told me to gtfo because I didn’t want to pay 2000 yen for all you can drink 30 mins before it finished. To put this into perspective, all you can drink is optional in every other establishment I’ve been to in Japan. Other members of staff have been rude to my gf in the past.
I understand that the people who run this place are probably too cheap to get the people with all you can drink wristbands, cost cutting and all that, but if you’re working there, you could at least say something along the lines of sorry, it’s all you can drink only until 9. This chick actually told me to get out and come back at 9, and I was standing there thinking, do you honestly expect me to come back and spend money at your bar when that’s the attitude you’re giving me? Good luck with that bro.
I heard the female owner sold this bar to a male proprietor that owns a bunch of gay bars in Nichome, so it makes sense that the quality has gone down, but it’s a damn shame.
Also, everyone who goes here is in a clique, so you most likely are not going to make any new friends or meet your gf here.
Manage your expectations. If you want to go for the lulz of the worst customer service in Nichome, you’re in...
Read moreWent here once a few years ago and had a very negative experience. Went back again last week and it was confirmation that my prior experience was not a one-time thing. The staff very aggressively approached me and tried pushing me to get more drinks (after I had already bought and drank 2). After being there for a couple hours, I stepped outside with a friend for about 5 minutes and when I came back in, they stopped and told us that we needed to buy drinks. We explained that we had been there for a couple hours and that we had already bought drinks and the staff proceeded to tell us we needed to buy more drinks again if we wanted to go back in. I then told her I was going to retrieve my bag and jacket from inside and leave and she gave me a dirty look. I don’t physically appear to be Japanese and my friend doesn’t either. We hadn’t noticed the staff treating Japanese patrons in any similar way, so I can only assume this was racially motivated. Mind you, I speak Japanese, so there was no miscommunication due to a...
