Beef Kitchen Stand Nishi-Shinjuku — Restaurant in Tokyo

The food was ok, but I found the service to be lacking. There are two different menu prices. The Japanese menu is about 200 yen less per item than the English menu. All the cheap prices they advertise outside are off the Japanese menu. It doesn’t matter which menu you order off of, it just matters how the staff judges you when you walk in. I was a Japanese citizen until a few years ago and speak and read Japanese while my husband is American. I ordered for the two of us off the Japanese menu using the QR code. I spoke to the staff in Japanese when ordering drinks. When we received the check it was with the American prices.

One of the Worst Dining Experiences in Tokyo

I rarely write negative reviews, but this place was truly disappointing. The food was bad, the meat quality was terrible, and the ramen soup was completely bland. The air ventilation inside the restaurant was so poor that our clothes and hair smelled of grease/ smoky after we left.

To make matters worse, we felt ripped off. We arrived around 2:30 PM, they closed at 3pm. And were told there was a 330 yen charge for the "all-you-can-eat" miso soup and sauce bar. We agreed, but after just one bowl of miso soup, they ran out and never refilled it — yet still charged us the full 330 yen.

Service was just as bad. The waiter was rude and dismissive. Overall, this was the worst meal I’ve ever had in Tokyo, and I would not recommend this...

I felt misled by the lack of transparency about the per-person ‘charger.’ It wasn’t mentioned upfront, and we ended up losing 1500¥ without any clear benefit in return. While the food portions were small, they were acceptable for the price—simple but decent. The place itself isn’t bad; the beer was cold and we were warmly welcomed. However, the unexpected charge completely soured the experience. If they had been honest about it, I believe we would have spent much more willingly.
