My best friend and I stayed at the hotel for 7 nights and have no regrets booking them! My bestie and I shared rooms with 2 full size beds and it was a good size. The room at Sunroute is a bit larger than other prospectives. We did not pack our essentials: toothbrush/toothpaste, facial wash/lotion, shampoo/conditioner as the hotel provides all these items. We especially liked the hair mask deep conditioner the hotel provides in the lobby hotel. We did store 2 check in luggages (we shopped a lot) each under the bed with the daily clothes being at the end of the bed for easy access. The hotel location is great for food, shopping and the stations. It took 3 trains, but felt shirt, to go to TeamLabs Planet. We shopped a lot around Shinjuku and commuted to suburbs for more thrift shopping and easy to get to from this hotel. Mom and pop and Mall food in Shinjuku was also good so we couldn’t go wrong. There is a station entrance down Shinjuku station nearby, but we use that one only once—you’ll understand if you’ve been to Tokyo before. I liked going to the yoyogi station when possible since that station is chill. The hotel is self check-in and check-out but staff were there to help. Staff are also great. The best was waking up and having the traditional Japanese breakfast that was included in our stay. I did go for the bacon and potatoes, but skipped on the breakfast pastries since I was going for their noodle specials (pho, udon or soba during my stay). If you’re coming from US during bird flu, their eggs here are like gold. Yes, there is light sewage smell coming from the toilet and probably more and higher up floors, but staying at 2 different places my first time almost 10 years ago paying higher price than today dollars/yen, this is pretty common in Tokyo in older buildings. I close the toilet lid, and bathroom door after airing out from my showers. I turn on the air purifier. Done. Try a new developed hotel ($$$$) if you want all new pipes.

We enjoyed our stay here at Sunroute. The team were able and straight forward. There are hotel amenities in the lobby so you can help yourself to face masks, cleanser, oils, tooth brushes, hair brushes, hair ties, tea and coffee etc at your own leisure. I thought this was a great and fun way to have us collect our own things as we need supplies. It gave me a happy rush of feeling each time I was coming back home to the hotel each night to collect an item or two before I went upstairs to bed. It was as though it was a little shopping stop before going up to our room. The hotel lifts were quick to arrive and efficient take us where we needed to go. The room was clean, with a large big bed, a nice bathroom, a small fridge, tv and long table in front of the window. Aircon worked well. Minimal noise so you can hear the hustle and bustle as we were on the quieter side of Shinjuku. Loved the location, convenient and close to train stations, convenience stores and restaurants. We walked over to the busier Shinjuku side when we wanted to explore and eat our 2nd or 3rd dinners every night. It was amazing and we loved our experience here. The hotel helped us to transfer our luggage to the other hotel in Osaka, fuss free. I would definitely stay here again next time. Price was about $450 AUD per night during our stay in the cherry blossom season. It’s by no means a beautiful room, no nice views however it was clean, simple, neat, and had enough space for our things. We felt safe and at ease here after our 20k steps plus days. There is space under the bed to slide your luggage under. I enjoyed the firmness of the bed. When we called and asked for anything, it was never any trouble which was lovely.

Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku|||I stayed here with my family in Sept 2024. It is an excellent hotel, with a great location, affordable prices, clean rooms, and friendly staff. This combination has makes it popular with foreign travelers.||Location:|The location of the hotel is hard to beat. It is literally right next to a smaller entrance into Shinjuku Station. We could also walk a block down the street to enter the larger Southgate of Shinjuku Station. Across the street we could walk up some stairs to enter the Shinjuku Southern Terrace which has access to large department stores. All around the hotel are tons of shops and restaurants within walking distance. ||Getting to the Hotel:
The Airport Limousine Bus stops directly at this hotel. This is one of the best ways to get into Tokyo because of its relatively cheap price. You can of course take the other typical services such as trains or taxi.||Room:|We booked a room with two beds. It was a decent size, and a bit larger than the room with a single bed. We didn’t have any issues with space. The styling of the room is basic, and nothing fancy - which is to be expected at this price point. The beds are a bit firm (which I do prefer), and slightly larger than a twin bed. Sound from other rooms was never an issue, and it was very quiet at night. The AC/Climate control was very good - and could quickly get the room cool whenever we needed it (the weather was still hot when we were there). There was a small refrigerator where we stored our drinks and small snacks. The desk and the side table near the bed had multiple electrical outlets. I could directly plug in my electronics from the USA into these plugs without an adapter.||Bathroom:|The bathroom was clean, and simple. Of course it had a bidet toilet which was great. I also love the shower. It had controls where I could precisely, and consistently choose the temperature of the water. The water pressure from the shower was good as well. The water at this hotel is also filtered, and there were signs in the room that the water could be used for drinking/making tea (with the included tea bags and kettle).||Washing Machines for Clothing:|One of the unique things about this hotel is that it has combination washing/drying machines on several of its floors. In order to use them, you can use either coins, or an IC Card like Suica or Pasmo. (Not all the machines take IC Cards, - just look for an IC card reader). Using the TV in the hotel, checking the status of the washing machines is very easy. We were able to see which floors had washing machines that were available, and when our clothes were done. (The machines tend to get used more at night, and less in the morning.)||WiFi:|There’s wifi for all guests. It seemed fast enough, as I was able to watch streaming video without issues. (But we usually just used the mobile hotspot we rented from a separate service company.)||Luggage Hold service:|The Sunroute Hotel offers a limited service to hold luggage. On the day of our departure, we asked them to hold our luggage for a few hours since checkout was at 11am, and our flight was later int he day. To use the service, we simply asked one of the agents at the registration desks.||Final Thoughts:|This hotel is very popular with tourists. The lobby was constantly filled with arriving and departing guests. Everyone was very friendly, and there was a fair number of families as well. Every morning in the front restaurant, they had a breakfast buffet which looked really good. (We usually just had a simple snack from a nearby 7-11 or Family Mart instead.) I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for affordable prices, cleanliness, and...

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It has got a perfect location!

I think if you come with the right mindset, you will find this place tick so many boxes.

The hotel is literally next to A1 Metro exit for E27, S01 or KO01 - there is a lift in case you travel with luggage. As for JR, go for the South Exit and the hotel is within 3 min (flat) walk. Best to get acquainted with the correct exit as the Shinjuku station is not something I have ever experienced! Talking the wrong (of the so many exits) can result in you becoming a bit lost and needing to find your bearings, plus much farther from the hotel than you can be if you take the right one).

Loads of food, shopping options with reach. Family Mart opposite the hotel.

I stayed in a single room the size of which was adequate - it is Tokyo, Shinjuku so I was not expecting much space. The room itself was a bit tired and the carpet had some stains - that did not bother me. The bed was good length and width for one person (I am around 6ft tall). The materace on the firm side - which I liked, the pillows not comfortable at all (combination of firmness and filling). You can move around the bed but the scope for a hotel workout is quite limited. There is storage for a luggage underneath the bed which you will. There is a small shelving unit with a handful of hangers in the hallway. The rooms has a got a mini fridge was surprisingly good with keeping things chilled. There is an AC unit which you can turn on or off. I had a window which I could open. There is a desk and a chair, plus a tv unit on the desk. The bathroom unit was more than adequate. The shower had a great pressure and water was really hot. The water is purified and suitable for drinking.

I am a light sleeper but had not trouble sleeping in the hotel room. I could not hear any noise from the neighbouring rooms or outside.

There are four lifts which operate quite efficiently - I have never had any issues waiting for the lift.

Breakfast buffet was really good. Yes, it remains largely the same but there is enough variety to alternate every 2-3 days and have something different. I came down for breakfast at different times of the morning and never experienced the place full (I did not stay during the Golden Week or the cherry blossom season).

The hotel provides a wide range of free amenities such as: toothbrush, hairbrush, razor, creams, cleansers, sun creams etc.

The check-in and check-out is automated but there is staff in attendance in case of any issues. There is a standard reception desk in case of queries. You can leave your luggage for free if you arrive before the check-in time (I presume the same applies for check-outs).

The staff is friendly and professional. Mind you, they won't bend the rules just to please your every request but they are all very accommodating if you ask for something that is within the parameters the hotel operates.

If I had to pick one negative, then I would say that the standard of housekeeping, especially with regard to bathroom cleaning, is low for Japanese standards. This did not bother me massively but I did find it rather surprising.

Overall, a very enjoyable stay and I would choose this...

We chose this hotel over the Shibuya area despite both locations are overwhelmingly busy as it was more convenient for the locations we were scheduled to visit. It was really nice that Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal to Tokyo Disneyland & Disney Sea were located about 10 minutes walk from the Hotel Sunroute Plaza. It is absolutely convenient to connect to the various subway lines & Shinkansen trains, although it may be confusing for the beginner. |The rooms are small but most are in Japan unless you are willing to upgrade & pay a bit more. It is a double bed and was not really a bother on our part as we are small couple. You place your luggage under the bed so it is out of the way There is a small closet space and all the bathroom amenities are available downstairs at the lobby - everything like razor, hair ties, shower cap, toothbrush/paste, lotion for body/face, make-up remover, brush, tea, coffee, etc. You need to self check-in at the computer terminals - clerks are there to assist if any issues. By the way, join in as " Sotetsu Hotels Club " member and you will get a discount during your stay at their hotel's chain. We were able to get 500 yen per day during our stay of (10) days = 5,000 yens in cash from the hotel clerk. |There are convenience stores like Family Mart that was across the street from our hotel that sells cold drinks, grocery, everyday items, etc. In the room, you turn on the TV and it will show you the floors that have available washer/dryers (2 washer/dryers on 5 different floors). Try early morning to avoid the long lines. It is about 600 yens for wash & dry about 2 hours total. If you have a lighter load, then it costs less. If you have clothes like denim - it will take longer to dry (100 yen extra=30 minutes). Remember that the washing machines only take 100 yen coins only. Ask the clerk at lobby or go to convenience stores for change. Elevators are convenient with (5) in use. There are no garbage cans in the lobby or hallways at the Hotel Sunroute, so make sure you carry a small garbage bag when you are in Japan. Note - there are recycling bins for bottles, aluminum and trash at Family Mart, Lawson and 7Eleven stores. Hotel Sunroute is a great place to stay and is close by to most major public transportation like trains, buses,...
