First, I have to mention that I was there just before the lunch crowd on a weekday. d47 SHOKUDO, located on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie. The restaurant offers set menus inspired by Japan’s 47 prefectures, allowing diners to explore the country’s diverse culinary heritage in one place. Each dish was beautifully presented, portioned just right for lunch, and thoughtfully crafted to showcase the uniqueness of its region. One highlight was the fresh, high-quality seafood sourced from Umi to Seafood, a B Corp-certified company. This certification ensures ethical and sustainable practices throughout its supply chain, emphasizing the commitment to environmental responsibility and social impact—providing a genuine and conscious dining experience.
The venue also hosts various events, currently featuring an exhibition of 14 types of "distilled spirits" from the Tokyo Islands, giving visitors a unique chance to explore the distinct flavors of these island regions.

Read moreWouldn’t recommend foreigners come here. It’s a super cool concept, and the food is pretty good, but I think they’re not very welcoming if you’re not a local.
The staff became quite flustered when I used my imperfect Japanese (I speak and can understand quite a bit but am not fluent). I could tell my lack of fluency made them nervous. I even heard them point out I didn’t speak Japanese to the other staff (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if they did so to be more accomodating, but it didn’t feel great and felt more ‘othering’).
The staff also forgot to provide me with any utensils (chopsticks) to even eat my food and also forgot to bring one of the dishes.
Worst of all they served me tea using the cup the previous customer left behind. They weren’t even that apologetic when I asked for a new cup after explaining this—they acted as if it were an inconvenience. I know they’d definitely have been more apologetic if I were a local.
As I said it’s a shame because it’s a really awesome concept and a cool restaurant. Now that quite a few reviews have said something about the poor customer service and also subpar treatment of foreigners, I think it’s time management...
Read moreI really like this place and I’ve been twice - the food and atmosphere are great.
I would have given 5 stars if not for the attitude of the staff member. We put our name on the waiting list and due to the waiting area’s seating arrangement, we didn’t hear our name called. After 45 minutes, I went up to ask about it and the staff member told us in an irritated manner that he had called my name several times and will have to figure something out to let us in. Eventually we got in and the server (different person) was very kind and attentive, maybe to make up for her colleague’s attitude.
Besides that, the food here is really great and the extensive menu outlines the source of every single ingredient, with something from every prefecture on the menu. The food was very very high quality, especially for the reasonable price. I’ll be back, and just hope I don’t run into the rude...
