As the scorching sun bore down upon the vibrant streets of Shibuya, I sought refuge from the heat at none other than Sentai Zenkashoin, drawn by the promise of their renowned Kakigori. My anticipation was slightly marred by the revelation that they offered only a single flavor - matcha. Initial disappointment, however, swiftly gave way to sheer enchantment.
The Matcha Kakigori, a towering marvel of culinary artistry, arrived before me. Its verdant hues whispered of ancient traditions and the art of matcha craftsmanship. What lay ahead was a revelation. With the first spoonful, my taste buds embarked on a journey through the hallowed realm of matcha, each bite unveiling layers of flavor, an intricate dance of bitterness and sweetness.
To accompany this frosty delight, Sentai Zenkashoin presented the option to select a hot tea of your preference. I chose the Genmaicha, a choice that I would later deem nothing short of inspired. The toasted notes of the tea seamlessly intermingled with the matcha, elevating the experience to new heights.
I must admit, I've never been a fervent enthusiast of Matcha Kakigori. Yet, this ethereal creation defied all preconceptions. It was, without exaggeration, a taste of heaven, an exquisite equilibrium of textures and tastes that danced upon the palate.
For those inclined towards indulgence, there was the option to enhance the experience with a small vial of condensed milk, available at a modest cost. Even without this decadent addition, the Matcha Kakigori stood as a testament to culinary artistry. Its aesthetic allure was rivaled only by its delectable taste.
In retrospect, Sentai Zenkashoin's Matcha Kakigori is a masterstroke, a celebration of simplicity and elegance that transcends expectations. It serves as a reminder that in the world of gastronomy, even the most unassuming of offerings can become an unforgettable...
Read moreAs a matcha lovers, I definitely won't miss matcha when visiting Japan! So, this was my very first matcha that I tried in Japan. Recommended by my Japanese friend, Sate Zenkashoin is located on the 5th floor of Shibuya Hikarie ShinQs.
That time was on a weekday afternoon. No customers here. So, it felt like a private cafe 🤣 They provide desserts and beverages as well. At first, we would like to try their matcha kakigori (Japanese shaved ice), but this menu isn't available anymore. That's why, we decided to try their parfait for sharing and I had Matcha Latte as the drink.
Firstly, let's talk about the parfait. This parfait consists of hojicha (roasted green tea) ice cream, cream, red beans, abundant of jelly, crunchy cookies. Mix them all together and enjoy it! I love the cookie. It tastes similar with lidah kucing (cat tongue cookies) 😁
For the matcha latte, it consists of matcha and milk. It's less sweet as well. The more we drink it, the more matcha taste that we get. Tbh, it's different with the common matcha that I had in Indonesia with more milky taste 😂 It is served with the sweet and savory fried snacks.
If we sit beside the glass window, we could see the beauty of Tokyo...
Read moreEverything was so good!! We got there around 4:30, and waited around 10 minutes for a table, and our order came in ~15 minutes.
Each dessert comes with a drink, but depending on the drink it might raise the price of your order. I got the matcha shaved ice with an iced matcha latte, which was an additional 50 yen on top of the price of the shaved ice. I felt like the price of the shaved ice was very worth it for the portion, but the mizu (water) jelly and warabi mochi might be a little expensive. Definitely get one of the shaved ices if you come here.
The presentation of the dishes, the color of the matcha, and the flavor of the sweets were all...
