Ask any burger lover in Tokyo which are their favorite burger joints in the city, and Fire House is likely to be in that list. They have been in business in Hongo 3-Chome since 1996, and their continued success have led to a second delivery shop around the Shinbashi area. Fire House has quite an extensive menu. What makes Fire House burgers so good? Attention to detail, passion and careful sandwich construction. Each sandwich is balanced, the burger masters at Fire House have chosen not to give in to the temptation of going overboard with too many toppings unlike many other establishments.
It is common to find awesome looking burgers with a ton of toppings, yet the whole thing falls apart after a couple of bites. Nope, this isn’t a problem you’ll find at Fire House except for their “Mad Burger”, which is a 3 patty burger with a fried egg and cheese chilli. Good luck trying to keep that in one piece!
My recommendation? Go for the classic Bacon Cheeseburger. The apple burger and mozzarella mushroom burgers are standout items as well. The mad burger is very delicious but you probably shouldn’t order that unless you have a big appetite. All burgers come with several fried potato wedges and fried breaded onion rings.
Their menu is quite extensive, offering other items such as hot dogs, chili, sandwiches and a long list of beverages. The thick creamy milk shakes are worth...
Read moreI went to Firehouse Burger in Suidobashi on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm — it was quite busy, there was a small line as it is a popular place. The kitchen was running smoothly with three cooks and a waiter, so things moved quickly despite the queue.
I ordered the Mozzarella mushroom burger and I loved it ! The patty wasn’t thick, but it was well-seasoned and cooked just right. They used white mushrooms (Paris mushrooms) and they were raw (not cook and totally safe) which is very unusual in Japan. I really loved that as I used to eat these raw mushrooms when I was living in France. The bun was clearly from a proper bakery, soft and slightly toasted. For me the bread is very important and it was perfect.
There wasn’t any fancy sauce, just a bit of mayo, but honestly, it worked well with the overall balance of flavors and mostly with the raw mushrooms. The fries on the side were fresh, skin-on, not too oily, and had that soft-inside-thick-cut texture I really like. You also get a small pickle relish on the side — more sour than sweet, which was a nice touch.
The atmosphere was nice too, fashionable and not the usual USA diners vibe.
Overall the quality and the portion was satisfying and worth the price. Definitely a spot I could...
Read moreReally cool corner store burger shop that can be considered one of the best in Tokyo. This shop has been here for more than 15 years and still serves some of the best stuff.
Went in for an early dinner on a weekday at around 5:30pm, no crowd with only 1 other couple in store. By 6:15pm, restaurant was full with folks queueing outside.
Ordered a Mozerella Mushroom Burger and an orange ice tea. Really good ingredients went into the tall burger that can hardly fit my mouth. Not a fan of the white pale lettuce, makes the burger look bland. Came with fries that was piping hot.
Didn't know I could change the standard fries so I ordered another burger. The Apple burger with spice sliced chips. This IS an interesting burger that makes your taste buds fight for attention. The sweetness from cinnamon flavored cooked apple slices really compliment the beef patty that has a slight strong bit of pepper. I highly recommend the Apple Burger, much better than the Mushroom one.
Will definitely pop by to grab one of these Apple Burgers again.
Lotsa college kids frequent here so may be a great place to make Japanese...
