If you're into heavy, greasy, old-school bowls, Ramen Genraku in Kuramae is a must. This place serves up a back-fat loaded shoyu ramen that hits hard. No gimmicks—just a steaming bowl of sweet soy tare layered under a slick of pork fat, ready to be stirred into thick, chewy noodles. I had the Ganso Ramen (the OG bowl) and the cold tsukemen—both excellent.
The Ganso is rich, savory, and borderline dangerous. You can literally see the layers: sweet soy base on the bottom, shimmering back fat on top. Mix from the bottom up to get that perfect consistency. Noodles are medium-thick, springy, and grab the soup like a pro.
The cold tsukemen was a refreshing surprise—super clean and bright, with citrus juice that cuts through the richness. Great contrast to the Ganso.
Shop is counter-only with partitions, which I loved. No distractions—just you and the bowl. Service is quick, ticket machine system, and it's cash only.

Read moreI'm not a ramen person, and I was sincerely surprised by how good they tasted. Even if the staff doesn't speak English, they have an English menu at the entrance. Then you just need to pay and select whatever dish you want. Food came out so quickly. The broth looked so greasy (and actually was), but I think it's what's making it so good. The meat was good quality and we regretted not taking the ramen with the 5 pieces. The price is actually cheaper than many ramen places, so I'd say it's good value. We could barely finish our bowls despite the fact that it was delicious. I will definitely go back there before...
Read moreVery good, decently priced ramen and soba. I got abura soba, which was spectacular. Usually I feel pretty heavy after eating ramen/soba, but after this I felt great. At 890 yen, I felt the price point was definitely worth it.
Emphasis is on eating alone-all of the seats had a wooden barrier that made it hard to eat with friends.
Be warned, they don't really speak English. You do order via vending machine, but the menu is all in Japanese. Maybe you can translate it, but also they have pictures of their main menu items. If you are reading this while attempting to order: ラーメン=ramen 油そば=abura...
