This may have been a product of culture shock however I'm concerned the restuarant is anti-foreigner. We were visiting Tokyo from Australia for only a few short days (*edit to note we were 2 people). Reading great reviews of the food here and its unique wholesome menu made me think it was a must visit. I decided to go on a week night for dinner and arrived around 7pm. There were no lines. My Japanese wasn't very good but I was told the restuarant was booked out for the night, however I noticed the high tables with seats along the wall were totally free. I decided to order take away instead and while we were waiting, the waitstaff offered us a bench at the uber eats pick up table in the corner. It was a quiet night and I noticed no customers entering at this point, I was hoping they would let us eat at the bench since it was so quiet however when I asked - they told us it wasn't possible. Take out is take out. I left feeling very confused and almost concerned, were we turned away because we were foreigners? Or do restuarants prefer to close early once all bookings have been served? I had come all this way and honestly the place was quite out of the way for us but I intentionally came to try the food. We needed to eat so we ended up having the take away outside the nearby hostel. Additionally while the rice and soup was hot and delicious, the protein sides in our takeout was cold and firm to eat. I assume the chicken option was a tempura inspired side but because it was cold - the batter was soggy and tough. Were we supposed to heat this after we got to our accommodation? While we ate outside the hostel, we observed that no more customers entered the restuarant that night. It didn't feel good and I wish they had better explanations or at least foreigner friendly info cards as I'm sure many tourists are also visiting. It would also be good if it was made clear on their socials/website that reservations are preferred for dinner service. However I did note that you can only call up to make a booking and as a tourist, most foreigners would not be...
Read moreI visited because I was attracted by the aged rice. There was no particular wait, but you will only be asked to sit in an empty seat, so please be careful if this is your first visit. The restaurant is full of loud noises from the kitchen, mysterious music that doesn't match the atmosphere of the food, and a crowd of customers who make strange noises as if they were in a bar. Although there are a lot of people in the store, there are many things that make it hard to understand, such as the staff who hardly ever look at the customers and don't apologize for any inconvenience. I was surprised at some things about the meal after reading the reviews, but I had a...
Read moreLocal Washoku (japanese traditional food restaurant) with reasonable lunch prices and healthy&delicious self-serviced set meals!
The rice is definitely the most attractive part of the food, sticky, crispy, seasoned with salt al gusto 🍚
There was a very long queue before opening the store on a normal weekday, its better not to come if in a hurry, as the profile of people coming tends to be those that don’t want to rush.
Highly recommended for comfortable food and definitely worth the wait!
Its better to prepare...
