My wife and I first stumbled upon this hole in the wall sushi place back in 2023, when we were trying to find our way to a nearby temple festival!

We received a warm welcome from the owner / chef and his staff. The grandma serving customers is incredibly adorable and very helpful in recommending dishes, even though she doesn't speak a word of English! šŸ˜‚

The sushi and sashimi are so fresh and delicious that we actually travelled halfway across Tokyo the next day to visit the restaurant again!

The owner / chef is very friendly and kept giving us extra sashimi and tibits on the house, when we turned up for the 2nd visit!

While they do receive tourists and foreigners quite frequently, I noticed that most of their customers are Japanese businessmen and local residents, which is testament to just now authentic the sushi & sashimi are! They also serve ala carte dinner food like fried noodles and chicken wings, but these seem to be off the menu items.

We last visited in January 2025 when we were passing through Tokyo, and we are happy that the food & beer are still just as fantastic and the environment is just as I remembered it to be! 😊

The locals and regulars are very friendly, and will try to help you with recommendations or just to translate your order for the staff to understand.

The entrance to the restaurant is quite inconspicuous, so it's best to use Google maps to find this...

The most amazing shop with amazing chef and his wife and an obachan who is really sweet and nice.

When I came to the store at first I thought I went to someone’s living room by accident as everyone looks as if they were a family having a family gathering, everyone is happy and laughing but then I was welcomed in and long and behold there I was enjoying every single second just like a family !!!

Papa and mama are the nicest people I’ve come across in Japan and is the most authentic person I’ve come across!

The food is amazing and the price is ideal for all kinds of traveler.

Papa and mama although they don’t speak a lot of English but they truely tries and make you feel included like a family!

I also met a whole bunch of nice people there, everyone is having a good time and enjoying the atmosphere. I really appreciate the time that I was able to spend here, I wish you guys well and though it was a short time I was able to spend in kikumasa, it was simply the best time with a lot of fun! Sorry for being loud when I’m drunk mama and papa šŸ˜œā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļø

Thank you mama and papa for the wonderful memories!!! I will be back for sure šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡®šŸ‡©šŸ’œ If I could give it 20 stars!! I...

Ordered top two sets of dish from their pictured menu, each comes with a choice of beer or sake. Around 5k Yen in total. Food was top notch.

What impressed me the most was the atmosphere in there, very authentic. Like the other reviews said before me, the old couple are very welcoming and friendly even though they couldn't speak english much and we couldn't speak japanese much. A local in there jumped in and assisted in taking our order, no thanks to google translate lol (confused them even more! Wrong voice recognition was translated, yikes). But, you'll have no trouble ordering and enjoying yourself in here. Just point to the pictured menu.

The old lady was so kind, bless her, she tried to engage with us in coversation and a young lady came to our rescue helping us in translating, time and time again. I wish her all the best! Had a very cheerful and fun chat.

When we were about to leave, everyone, literally everyone in the restaurant, were smiling, thanking and waving goodbyes. Dare I say genuinely the nicest place and people I've met on my Japan trip April 2023 so far? You bet!

Thank you very much! -Nepalese...

This place is ā€œKikumasa Sushiā€. I can’t read Japanese and was looking for this place on Google Maps and wasn’t sure if it’s the right one. And here it is! It’s on the corner so you can’t miss it. It’s a very small restaurant. Probably 3-4 tables and counter seats. The menu is only in Japanese and the other patrons were also only Japanese. I really liked this because I just wanted to chill in a regular restaurant. I walked by this place and wasn’t sure if I found the right one. I couldn’t tell if they were opened. Couldn’t look inside. Lol. But just slide open the door. I was quite a noob. The owners were very nice. I just pointed at what I wanted and they delivered. They didn’t speak much English, but that wasn’t a problem. I thought the food was so delicious!
