GLITCH COFFEE & ROASTERS — Restaurant in Tokyo

I don’t usually post reviews but my recent visit here with my mum left me very sad about how she was treated. She asked for a black coffee, and sure they have a lot of options that fall under that bracket. Knowing full well that she wasn’t familiar with the single origin movement, the guy at the counter was quite arrogant about taking her order. She said she wanted a darker roast and he said he has all sorts, but that they were all light. Asked for the difference he listed the names of the countries, which he should have known doesn’t mean much to my mum as she was asking about the taste, and without being asked he said that the coffee ranged from 1600 yen to 600 yen, for some reason stating the most expensive first, and told her to read the individual taste cards to choose. He could have simply asked for the kind of taste she was after and made a recommendation, or knowing already that she was probably after a darker roast offered her exactly that from the espresso machine. Instead she had to stand up to read all the cards herself and left to feel that she was not cool enough. I don’t know why good knowledge of good coffee should entitle you to treat our elder generation like that. A bit of kindness would have gone a long way. The flat white I had was nice and smooth as expected, though on a bit of a milky side; the extra milk didn’t do much to remove the bitterness of the whole experience. Enjoy a cup of decent ( beans from Yunnan, China). Perfectly balanced the fruity with rich undernotes . Refreshing sweetness of peach and lychee, Nice aroma. FYI, no foods serving there. They also selling coffee beans and filter coffee bags in the shops.

Atmosphere: a nice place to chill for a bit & enjoy a cup of coffee during the day. Staffs provided excellent service, super nice & friendly l. Full of knowledge about coffee beans & coffee. We travelled a fair way in Tokyo to reach Glitch which had been recommended to us by family in Australia - and it did not disappoint! We joined the queue out the door, and waited for our turn to come. By the time we were at the top of the queue we had observed the team at work and how they interacted with one another and their customers - like a well-oiled machine. Each customer received a highly attentive introduction to the various coffees available, along with staff recommendations. I chose a pour over with a delicious fruity tone to it and my husband had a latte. We both enjoyed our coffees and had fun watching the sheer ‘theatre’ of the coffees being made. It’s a very small shop (hence the queue) and in one corner coffee was being roasted - another enjoyable experience for us. Having travelled a bit, we would have really appreciated something to eat with our coffee - which was our only disappointment. We chatted to the roaster while he worked, asking for his recommendation of beans to purchase and were quickly joined by another team member who had realised our intention and who was able to knowledgeably recommend some options. Don’t expect run-of-the-mill coffee, do expect above average prices - but definitely a visit to savour and enjoy. Great work...
