Go Go Curry — Restaurant in Tokyo

This place was recommended by a friend, whom told me that another famous chain of curry rice was not as good as this one. I have to say she might be onto something: the place is on floor B1F (below ground floor, which is considered 1F in Japan), and it’s a small place with several seats and a tv. You can eat facing the counter or away from it, and while it was empty since I went after hectic lunch hours, I can imagine it can be filled with the classic atmosphere of cramped but lively Izakaya-style eating.

The place accepts cash-only, so be prepared in advance to not rely on your IC Card this time.

I asked if it was possible to have a curry with vegetables (yasai), explaining briefly that I’m vegetarian/vegan. Putting the two words together generally helps both in turning toward green choices, and also explain further what vegan means.

The cook pointed me at the plain rice+curry+salad dish, and I added to it eggplants and French fries (the latter on the side). You can see in the picture the salad on top left, the curry sauce and rice hidden beneath, eggplant slices on top right on the plate, and the fries on the side.

The medium portion I chose was maybe too much rice to curry in proportion, as I felt the curry was mostly on the surface and not enough to cover properly the entirety of the rice below. But I’m not an expert on it, and it might be that selecting the normal portion (smaller) with the same choices and maybe one more choice of vegetables could have been ideal. I do plan to come back again to talk more and see about more clarifications for vegetarians and vegans, along portions, but the person itself was kind and willing to listen, the food was nice, the atmosphere was there even if empty, and if you have non-veg friends they can enjoy a plethora of choices with...

The restaurant is located underground, accessed by descending a staircase. Inside, it's refreshingly cool thanks to the air conditioning running at full blast, providing a nice relax spot on a hot summer day. The clientele appears to be primarily male, indicated by numerous advertisements targeting Japanese salarymen. The food is decent; the curry is thicker and saltier than Coco Curry, and the portions are generous. Overall, it's an acceptable choice if you're unsure of where else to eat. Excellent curry, fast service and friendly, helpful staff.

Very easy to understand the menu and use the meal ticket machine as it has an English menu. There are also many options and additions you can make to your order to personalise it to everything you could want.
