Gyubei Souan Japanese Beef BBQ Restaurant — Restaurant in Tokyo

To be clear right off the bat, the two star review is for the service and not the food. The food is delicious.

There is a huge HOWEVER though. The service was bafflingly poor considering what a nice restaurant it is, and how polite Japanese culture is known to be. There was a couple sitting at the table next to us and they served them in a nice, timely manner, clearing their table piece by piece as they brought out their next dish. HOWEVER, for whatever reason, they brought out our whole order one after the other, not caring that we had no room on our table. Being such a lovely establishment with such a calm atmosphere, we were looking forward to enjoying a nice, slow meal. Instead, it made us feel rushed and overwhelmed. Also, they did not afford us the same curtesy as our neighbors in unburdening our table of empty bowls and plates, allowing our empties to pile up in an unsightly manner.

In my experience, whenever I’ve been to a GOOD, DECENT restaurant with proper service, they would make the effort to describe the delicious food they should be proud of serving, even if it goes above our heads and we don’t completely understand. Somehow, the food here apparently didn’t warrant that same kind of introduction.

Everything was great, though it is a bit pricey, the food served justifies everything. The place was a bit grimy, but granted it was dinner service.

However, we went here again a year after and found the service to be abysmal. I believe during that time, there were only two staff persons and they were manning both the service and the cashier... The water only arrived an hour after we have already eaten most of the food. The food itself came in batches. In fact, some of the dishes didn't even arrive. Excellent quality food. The menu is with a variety of different parts of beef and assorted set that you can have a taste of every part, too. Excellent veggi that matches and balances the heavy taste of meat. Spacious environment and the griller is so good that it never gets too strong to burn and waste the top quality meat.
