I didn’t want to believe the ratings and reviews because I was in the Hario Cafe Kyoto location and I had the BEST coffee experience, the best service and attention to detail.
However I would NEVER recommend this location if you’re a truly coffee lover. The other reviews about the service being so bad are 100% true.
If you don’t really care much about coffee save some dollars and go somewhere else because this place is pricey. I don’t mind the price because I LOVE coffee and the experience of seeing the brew methods but, this barista wasn’t even following a recipe, you could tell that the timing was off, the portions were not being respected.
If you came here and are headed to Kyoto please give the Kyoto location a try. The people are amazing, the baristas are EXCEPTIONAL and the coffee is one of the best I’ve had in my life.

Read moreWe were super stoked to visit the Hario cafe, the company who gave us V60, Our excitement was crushed by the staff's rudeness. Despite being considerate, acknowledging the rule of taking pictures without face and asking permission, we were met with snobbish behavior. Every time we tried to understand her perspective and changed our communication to suit hers, she became more and more rude. The final straw was when the lady manager/barista made a scene about ordering 1 drink as we were two of us. With all that happened one of us wasn't in the mood to drink anything but she declared, raising her eyebrows, "two drinks for two people" in broken English. We left, deciding our money wasn't worth...
Read moreHad high expectations to visit Hario Cafe (I have been consuming specialty coffee for more than 10 years) for a long time, but was somewhat disappointed after today’s visit… Don’t get me wrong: the place is beautiful, and there are many coffee options - I ordered the syphon coffee made with a blend from Ethiopia, Colombia and Guatemala. The coffee was good, but overpriced (1,100 yen) compared to other places that I’ve been to. The service was a bit ‘cold’ - there was minimal communication with the guests, which could be improved.
Additionally, I have noticed that, like many other shops in Japan, Hario Cafe doesn’t offer power outlets to charge your phone, which could be a...
