Balinese Pepper Jack Cheese Burger
First Visit –
When I researched this burger shop, I was immediately intrigued by the unique Indonesian Sambal sauce that they use on all their burgers. This was a sweet and spicy relish that I’ve never had before. The thick burger patty is advertised as hand chopped 100% grass fed Aussie Chuck Roll. The cook is also advertised as medium rare. Standard toppings are a thick slice of tomato and a lettuce pillow. Other toppings are available for additional charge. The buns were darker than usual, soft and a bit on the chewy side so perhaps they are made with a sourdough component. I left the ketchup and mustard alone to taste the sandwich as the owners designed it to taste. It was wonderful and the star of the experience is the Indonesian Sambal sauce. The menu also mentions that there is tartar sauce on the sandwich as well. I was immediately glad that I didn’t just splash on the ketchup. It would have ruined the burger. The burger comes with a very small portion of fries which I positioned to catch the Sambal juice flowing from the handy little wrapper that most burger joints provide to keep your hands clean. The only slight let down was the toughness of the patty. The taste of the meat itself was good, much better than an overcooked dry patty. The shop states in the menu that all patties are cooked medium rare which I’m a little leery of but since this is hand chopped, I think it’s OK as it is not exposed to the heat generated by a power grinder. Perhaps the hand chop is not fine enough and results in inconsistent texture which makes it a tough chew at mid rare. Aside from the chewiness I think this was a solid burger with some really banging sauce. Am definitely going back for some of their other stuff and to check on how they are with salads. I wonder if they have some awesome original dressing to compliment the Sambal sauce on the burger. Now I think I will research how to make Sambal sauce. I want to have this...
Read moreSaw jack 37 on a few lists for the best burger in Tokyo. We tried the regular cheeseburger and the Balinese cheeseburger. They both are well over ¥1,000 and come with fries. The regular burger comes with some grilled onion sauce that reminds me of onion soup. The balinese came with sambal chili sauce, it's so good!
The staff will tell you to eat the burger with the paper holder because it's messy... But honestly if you get the Balinese, I would eat it over the fries and let everything drip on the fries, makes it more tasty.
One thing to note is that Jack does not make minced ground patties, they are more like chunky steak patties. That's my only reason for not giving it a 5⭐

Read moreStopped by on a late Sunday afternoon (just after 2 p.m.) and was able to get a table for four without a reservation. The restaurant seats around 16 people, with two 4-person tables, two 2-person tables, and four counter seats. Wait staff were attentive and made sure not to add any mustard to the kids' burgers.
Burgers are priced between JPY 1,300–1,800 on average, with double-patty options starting at over JPY 2,000. Ordered the Balinese burger, which featured a moderately spicy sambal-style coleslaw. The patty was thick and juicy, paired with a soft yet adequately fluffy bun. Burgers come with two sliced pickles and fries.
Also added an extra order of fries for JPY 150—recommended for those used to a slightly larger portion. The fries were a bit oversalted for personal preference, but overall the burger and...
