Kahido Hirakawacho — Restaurant in Tokyo

This is one of the most memorable experiences we've had in Tokyo. A hidden gem tucked into the basement. It opens up to a magical capsule of a cafe where everything is made with old school precision and world class Japanese hospitality. You get to pick a cup of your choice from a wall of probably a hundred beautiful cups, each with a theme. And to top it all off, Teshima the barista is just brilliant. He has been serving magical cups of coffee and tea for 30 years. The shop itself has been here for 40 years. It's a must visit for anyone...

Lovely lovely experience. I had a Kenyan coffee from the extensive menu; ground and brewed to order. I had very tasty buttered nori toast too. The cafe is tiny - counter seats only. It does permit smoking but there was no one smoking the day I visited. The proprietor was very patient with me not speaking Japanese - I used google translate to translate the Japanese menu but a helpful customer also leaned in and offered to help, which was much appreciated.
