A popular Italian restaurant in the ritzy Ginza neighborhood, requires reservations. I booked a week in advance for a 1 PM weekday lunch, which was essential. Due to the number of patrons, we were seated in a tightly packed annex across the street, where there was barely an arm's length between tables. Staff speak limited but sufficient English.
The wine selection is primarily Italian, with a single glass option for both red and white and a wider choice of bottles. A notable choice was the Moscato D'Asti, a light and effervescent summer wine.
The lunch menu offers an A Course for JPY 2640 and a B Course for JPY 3960. Both include an appetizer, main, and pasta, with the B Course adding a meat dish. We chose the most recommended options for each course.
The meal began with a combo platter of appetizers, including mortadella, prosciutto, heirloom tomatoes, mushrooms, a frittata, and broccoliâa simple but good start. The bread served was soft and warm with a medium crumb, perfect for dipping in olive oil.
The pasta dishes included a delicious, mildly spicy Arrabiata Penne and a Sea Urchin Spaghetti in a very light-bodied cream sauce, which seemed to pool around the noodles. Similarly, the MeuniÚre Filet was swimming in a mushroom sauce, though the flavors were delightful. A personal highlight was the Duck Breast, served with bitter greens and a balsamic vinaigrette; the acidic kick of the vinaigrette beautifully balanced the sweet and tender duck.
Overall, this is a great spot for anyone looking for local Italian food in Japan, and it's highly recommended for a date. Children are also welcome in...
Read moreI had a dinner date in December at this spot, and mannnn, was I in for a treat! From the outside, the place has a laid-back vibe, but wait till you see what's cooking inside. They've got this unique setup due to the crowd they pull in - two buildings, with one with kitchen and the other mainly for dining. Can you believe the staff dashes between buildings to serve up the dishes? We sat seats in the building with the kitchen.
In Japan, punctuality is everything. You've got to be on time for the two dining sessions - no kidding, five minutes late and you might as well be in a different time zone. The staff? They're like a well-oiled machine, each person running around with purpose. It's like watching a culinary ballet unfold right before your eyes!
Now, about the menu - it's packed with delicious choices and the priced as a set! Starting off with the primi and moving on to the secondi.... We dove into an octopus salad antipasti that was just out of this world, followed by uni pasta that hit the al dente jackpot. For my primi, I went for the beef cheeks, and pahhh, it was perfect. And the desserts - tiramisu and their knock-your-socks-off famous pudding.
The prices are a steal for the quality you get. This place is a tip-top, authentic Italian gem (Michelin rated) that would make any Italian beam with pride. Booking way in advance is a must, but it's absolutely worth it. This hidden secret (not any more since you are reading this) in the heart of Ginza - I can't wait to go back on...
