I stayed in August 2018 for 1 week, and this hotel exceeded my expectations!! Been meaning to write them a review for a while, but never got around to it until now :)
The location cant be beat! Honestly it's not the "most luxurious" but the location is awesome, near multiple train lines, so I feel like I'll just keep coming back here now that I've stayed once. Ginza is one of the SAFEST areas btw, so if you're a girl traveling alone (like me), this is a great bet! Finding good hotels is so hard when you've never stayed there yourself, so now that I've discovered this gem, I'll probably stick to it.
Their English is pretty good, so you shouldnt have too much difficulty communicating with the staff :) The staff members here are super nice, which is standard for pretty much anyone working in japan I think!!!
Biggest Pro: This hotel gives you free usage of a "Handy" phone!! I had never heard of this before, but it's a cell phone that has google maps & a few other basic apps on it, and you can use 4G/data!! So I didnt have to worry about not having international cell service on my own phone, or leaving the hotel's WiFi and then being screwed on no Google maps / not knowing how to get to my destination etc... AMAZING!!
Biggest Con: The WiFi is kinda slow, so if you need to do conference calls for work on Google hangout or something, your computer will really struggle with the video. I was able to do whatsapp calls fine though...
The room was small, but that is normal for japanese hotels in general, so I actually think for tokyo standards, this room was BIGGER than normal! The images people have posted of the rooms are pretty accurate. The bed was super comfy, they give you PJs, and there was a desk/chair for me to do my homework. (Most hotel rooms are not even big enough for you to have a desk to sit at!)
I got a kettle, fridge, nightstand, but there's no "closet" so you have to just hang your clothes on hangers they provide near the door. I guess it's kind of an "open closet" but it's not that wide. I think because it was just me by myself, I felt the space was adequate, but if a couple were here, I think it might be a little tight. Clothing / luggage wise, and also not being able to walk around to the other side of the bed.
Other than that, the bathroom was very clean and spacious!! And I LOVE that they have awesome "heated" mirrors where the portion directly above the sink heats up when the lights are turned on... meaning when you shower, THAT PART DOESNT FOG UP!!!! I have literally never seen that before, I was so shook, and it took me a while to realize how they were doing this voodoo magic o_O haha
Lobby is accessible 24 hours with your key, so even when you're out late with friends in Tokyo, you can come back easily, and the area will be super empty (because I think it's mostly businesses around here). I never felt unsafe -- the walk from train stations to the hotel is very easy, there's no weirdos/homeless around at all, actually there is like nobody in general.
ALSO, something came up last minute with my family, so I had to check out 1 day early, and I thought there was no way I would get refunded since I already made the booking through Agoda, but I guess because it was more than 2 days before my departure, it was fine?? I called Agoda and told them my situation, and they said they would have to call the hotel to approve the refund, I thought there's no way the Hotel Manager would understand what was being requested, but sure enough, eventually I got an email saying my amended booking was confirmed!! I got a full refund for the last night, and no changes to my awesome rate that I had originally booked at!
So THANK YOU to hotel sunroute ginza for making my stay amazing!!
P.S. random, but just FYI if you end up staying here, the little "do not disturb" placards etc, are magnetic & stick on the door, so you move them by peeling the magnet off... I couldnt figure out for the longest time where to find the DND sign, bc 99% of the time it's just a little hanging thing that you place on...
Read moreUnhelpful, inflexible, and lacking basic customer care – we won’t be returning.
We stayed at Hotel Sunroute Ginza in June 2025 and had a deeply frustrating and needlessly stressful check-in experience. ... Our booking through Agoda was for two rooms for four people (two adults per room) – something we clearly selected, paid for, and had confirmation of. Upon arrival, however, hotel staff insisted that the booking was for only one person per room, meaning they claimed our party of four had only been accounted for as two guests in total. This was clearly incorrect.
We immediately showed the staff clear physical evidence on our phones, including confirmation emails and screenshots, all indicating that the booking was for four guests in total across two rooms. Yet the hotel refused to accept this and instead insisted that Agoda had only sent through a booking for two people, forcing us to pay an additional ¥18,600 on the spot just to proceed with check-in.
What followed was over two hours of back and forth, with reception staff showing no willingness to de-escalate, contact Agoda, or take reasonable steps to resolve what was obviously a system or communication error. We were left feeling humiliated and powerless, despite being cooperative and providing ample documentation.
They lacked even the most basic common sense in dealing with the problem, rigidly clinging to their own system rather than assessing the evidence directly in front of them. Eventually, after we returned home and pursued the issue rigorously with Agoda, we were refunded the additional charge – which only further proves that the mistake did not lie with us.
But none of that changes the fact that Hotel Sunroute Ginza handled this disgracefully. The front desk team lacked empathy, flexibility, and even basic problem-solving initiative. Their position was rigid and unhelpful from start to finish.
For a hotel in central Tokyo that regularly hosts international travellers, this level of customer service is unacceptable. Mistakes can happen – but it’s how a hotel responds that reveals its true standards. Sadly, those at Hotel Sunroute Ginza were well below what any guest should reasonably expect.
We will not be staying here again and strongly advise others to consider alternative accommodation where guests are treated with fairness, respect, and...
Read moreThe Bottomline: decent price for the area but cleanliness could use some work. If breakfast wasn't included in the rate, I'd probably won't stay here again.
Hot Tip: book directly through the hotel's main website and apply for a membership to get decent promos and ¥500/night rebate.
Room Type: Non-Smoking Double Room (free breakfast included due to advance booking promo).
Total price paid: ¥102,305 (5 nights with membership rebate of ¥2,500)
Cleanliness: 3/5. The room was in a decent state but you could tell that the room was cleaned in a rush. There was hair left on the bathtub, dust on the desk, the carpet wasn't vacuumed properly. From what I can tell, there was only one person cleaning the whole floor!
Room size: 3/5. soundproofing isn't so good so if you're a light sleeper this hotel may not be the best for you. my friend book the same room but for 2 people so it had a bit more space. I think if you're a single person they give you a bit of a smaller room even though it's the same type. -I had a clamshell luggage and it was a tight fit when opening between the bed and the desk. -Toilet and the bathroom could use a refurb as it seems dated. It also smells musky around the toilet area.
Location: -located in Ginza 1 and a bit far from the main Ginza area (about 10 mins from Ginza 6). The nearest Don Quijote is in Ginza 9, which is approx. a 15 min walk on Google Maps. There are two family marts nearby food options include two ramen places frequented by locals and a Katsu curry place. Other than that, not much options in the...
