Ootoya is a chain restaurant in Japan serving cheap great food. Their speciality is teishoku meal set. Teishoku is a main dish comes with rice and miso soup. Teishoku meal are nutritious as you eat several food items at one meal. Usually you will have meat/fish, vegetables, rice and pickles in one teishoku meal. Although there are many restaurants at the east exit of Gotanda Station, most of them serve only specific dishes such as curry, ramen, and izakaya (Japanese style pubs), and there are not so many so-called teishoku-ya (set meal restaurants). Therefore, this Ootoya restaurant is crowded every day, not only during lunch time but also during dinner time. The only access to the restaurant is by stairs, and it's not recommended for people with disabilities such as wheelchairs or those carrying large luggage. If you use the restaurant when it's crowded, you must fill in your name in advance as a waiting list and wait until you are called, but there is no space inside or outside the restaurant for waiting, and many people wait on the stairs outside the restaurant, which often obstructs the elevation of people using other offices in the same building. Ordering is done using a touch-screen device, which is also found in other Ootoya restaurants, but even with the efficiency gains of using this device, the staff is still seen moving around the restaurant in a very busy manner. The quality and quantity of food served is comparable to other Otoya...
