Of all the breakfast spots I have been to in the world, Parklet Bakery is - without exaggeration - the very best. We stayed in a hotel around the corner and went to Parklet every morning. There‘s a wide selection of dishes - both warm and cold - and many vegetarian and vegan choices. Parklet makes their own bread as well as pastries, many of which we tried. The pastries were all really delicious and truly creative, such as a Danish with blueberry cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake or lemon curd filling in the middle. Choices of pastries vary slightly from day to day, so there’s always something new to try when you go more than once. The breakfast menu stays the same every day and breakfast can be ordered in the afternoon, too. We especially enjoyed the smashed avocado bread with oil and dukkah, as well as the granola. However, we also went in the evening when they were open until 10 p.m. — there was a great selection of delicious natural wine from France. There was even an evening menu that had separate dishes than the breakfast menu. For the coffee drinks, Parklet works with local roaster Overview Coffee. We usually order Batch Brews with our breakfast and enjoyed the Ethiopia and Honduras very much. Espresso-based drinks very really well-made, too. The double-shot espresso macchiato was the perfect espresso-milk ratio and the temperature was just perfect, too. Very delicious, I highly recommend to ask for one. Being music lovers, especially Soul and Jazz, we really liked the old school vibes of the music at Parklet. They played all the Soul classics we love. In the evening, the music was different to match the vibe. Most of all I would like to highlight the outstanding level of hospitality and service at Parklet: Every employee is extremely friendly, attentive, works hard, fast and clean. With ten years of experience in hospitality / specialty coffee I can honestly say that any place in the world would be proud to call this team their own. There‘s also a merchandise shelf with some Parklet-branded products, plus coffee, beer, wine, apple juice and other products both local and imported. Parklet offers a variety of seating options such as at the bar, high tables and bar stools, as well as regular tables and comfy chairs. It‘s located on a very quiet street and the other side of the indoors is facing a children‘s playground - lots of fun to watch the kids at play. My wife and I are looking forward to visit you again the next time we‘re in...
Read moreThere’s this trendy little café nestled beside a city park, famed for its carefully selected beans brewed into specialty coffee and those Instagram-worthy avocado toasts smeared with the utmost care. Given the cluster of nearby hotels, it’s a magnet for tourists—especially those Euro-American types who seem to flood the place every morning like clockwork.
But here’s the question that baffles me: why on earth do these travelers come all the way to Japan only to start their day with bread and toast—something they can get back home any day of the week? I mean, isn’t the point of visiting Japan to embrace the unique? To savor a breakfast that screams “I’m in Japan!” instead of munching on what’s basically a global café cliché?
Honestly, while they sip their meticulously crafted lattes and nibble on avocado-topped toast, I can’t help but think: “Come on, people! It’s morning in Tokyo—go have some sushi! Or at least something that requires chopsticks!” But no, the toast prevails, a quiet rebellion against culinary adventure. Maybe one day they’ll trade their smashed avo for a piece of tamago sushi and truly say, “Good...
Read moreI won’t deny that Parklet is beautiful little café. It’s thoughtfully designed and has a really nice flow. It’s too bad the customer service doesn’t live up to the design.
My wife, baby, and I arrived early on a hot weekend day. We entered to a 3/4 full café. We picked our seat and set out to order where we were greeted by an aggressive staff member telling us that there was a line up and explaining we needed to request a seat before seating. Okay. Fine. However, there is NO signage ANYWHERE explaining this. To the lineup she was referring there were two women waiting. Fair enough. With this, I assumed she would seat us at one of the other three vacant spaces. She did not. This point I will make clear, there was no one else waiting, no lineup, nothing. So…we left. The woman had no further follow up or explanation to encourage us to wait or why there were empty tables. Nothing.
Oh well. It’s obviously a popular spot. No need to worry about attracting new customers. We will...
