At Ramen Afro Beats in Shinjuku, near Gyoenmae Station, I tried their "Premium Free-Range Chicken Paitan Ramen," and it was quite an experience! The broth was rich and thick, made from premium chicken (tori paitan), with a slightly gooey consistency that gave it a unique texture. The paprika foam on top was an unexpected touch—it added a fresh and vibrant flavor that balanced out the richness of the soup. The egg was a real highlight—perfectly cooked with a glowing orange yolk that blended beautifully with the chicken broth.
The noodles were just right, slightly thick, similar to Hakata ramen but not quite as firm, which was perfect for me. And the char siu? Juicy, tender, and easy to bite through without sacrificing any flavor or texture.
This shop is a sister branch of Ramen Break Beats in Meguro, and it specializes in chicken-based ramen, which really shines through in the quality of the broth. Surprisingly, there were no lines when I went on a Monday night, so I walked straight in—definitely a good deal for a Tabelog 3.72 rating ramen shop🤞🏻!

Read moreMy journey continued at Ramen Afro Beats, Chef Yanase-San's second venture that draws inspiration from the world of Afrobeat music. This time, the beat-making theme is imbued with the rhythmic pulse of heavier drums and percussions, creating a strong flavor that resonated deeply with my musical taste-buds.
The star of the show here was the Tokujo Toripaitan. What truly sets this bowl apart is the innovative addition of the spiced espuma or foam. The spiced elements in this espuma add a unique and exciting dimension to the dish.
As you savor each spoonful, you'll notice the broth's subtle transformation as the spiced espuma gently melds into the paitan broth, creating changes of flavors that can only be described as heavenly. It's a masterpiece that almost feels too good to be legal.
Yanase-San's cuisine is undeniably changing the game when it comes to ramen. Dining at either of his restaurants is an experience that will make you forget everything you thought you knew about ramen. It's a true fusion of music and culinary prowess that will leave you craving more and looking at ramen in a...
Read moresuch a beautiful ramen shop! we were lucky coming on a weekday, first in line and was served quickly. such an flavourful creamy, chicken paitan ramen - we got the miso special, my first paitan and i’m addicted. it was a such a symphony of flavours in every bite! i loved the pepper, foam (i would love the can to take home if i could 🥹😂) and onions then you get between each spoonful/slurp. the noodle consistency was great and at first i thought the char siu slices were too thin, but they were so flavourful and melted away, making it substantial. still thinking about the bowl days later (as we’re in Osaka). we can’t wait to be back before we go home, to try the original - and hopefully make it out to Ramen...
