In a previous career, worked for 10 years in the coffee industry in Seattle, roasting and packaging specialty coffees. For the last 17 years, I have been in international business, and have traveled over 40 countries for work. Everywhere I go, I search out the best specialty coffee houses in the cities I visit.
REC Coffee Suidobashi is possibly the best location I have found in the last 25 years. The level of service was quintessentially Japanese, but the quality of coffees offered (over 15 single-origin coffees freshly roasted and ready to brew using V-60 method), was remarkable. Over the 5 days I stayed in a nearby hotel, I visited REC Coffee each morning and tried about half of these coffees. All of them were exquisitely prepared and delicious. I'm a fan of African coffees, and their Kenyan and Ethiopian selections were among the finestI have ever tasted. Also the simple menu of food available was a lovely accompaniment to the coffee.
And the space and atmosphere were delightful...a very open and light space perched next to the outer moat in Suburban Chiyoda area, this was an excellent place to catch up on some work, meet with colleagues, or spend some early morning hours writing in my journal. I depart today and will...

This is my type of coffee shop. Artisanal and full of passionate friendly people, without the pretentiousness.
I’ve been here a couple of times this year (May and Nov), and was impressed with the coffee both times. They have an awesome selection of single origin, and the staff are very well educated on the flavour profiles, styles, roasts and aftertastes!
I was pleasantly surprised on this latest visit to be greeted by a charming young lady with perfect English (it’s better than mine!), and her positive energy was infectious and infused me with a spring in my step. This little hidden gem near Suidobashi is hands down my must-visit café in Tokyo ☕✨. Even with countless trendy coffee shops in the city, I always come back here — already been 5+ times!
💡 Why it’s special:
Hand-drip coffee with freshly roasted beans (try the Summer Blend or the Geisha Blend — both under 1000 yen, total steal!).
Toast like no other — not your typical soft slice, but with a unique texture that’s addictive 🥖😋.
Spicy chai latte, fig tart & butter toast that will melt your heart 🍵🍰.
Kind staff + cozy riverside view that makes you want to linger.
⚠️ Heads up: it’s usually full (since there aren’t many cafes nearby), so expect to wait a little.
Truly one of the places where coffee is made with love + patience ❤️.
Would you try the Geisha Blend coffee or go straight for the chai latte? 🌿
