Roast Beef Ohno Minami Ikebukuro — Restaurant in Tokyo

The black wagyu beef bowl was as great as I had it before at the Akihabara store. Though the store was quite small there was barely a wait. It is located underground and the entrance is quite small so you'll have to look for it a bit. 1780 yen for the black wagyu beef bowl (normal meat portion), now when I ate at the akihabara store in 2017 I remembered the price to be 980, if I can dig up the photo I'll update. I think it's subjective whether that price point is worth it or not.

For me, the food was, but not the experience. Everything was great, except for how the employee(s) acted while I was there. So what if I'm wearing heavy makeup and wiped my mouth after the meal with the wet napkin? Y'all can say whatever y'all want when I'm gone, but come on, whispering amongst yourselves in front the customer? Where is the well-known Japanese service etiquette? I was shocked.

Talk about souring experiences right? Can't imagine what else they say about foreign customers that doesn't dress/act up to their personal standards right in front of them. For that, -2 stars.

Anyways, a tip: if you have to whisper to say something, probably not the best time to say it, or better...

As foreigners, we were humiliated by the server here. She didn't take our order until 17 minutes after seating us (we already knew what we wanted). We watched her clean 4 tables and seat a Japanese speaking couple. She took their order right away, before ours. I had a hair appointment in 43 minutes (that I need to walk 10 min to) and worried there wouldn't be enough time to order, wait for the food to arrive, and eat it, so we ordered just 1 XL serving for me to try some and my husband can stay behind to finish it. Perhaps culturally, sharing is not common. She came back with our order, set it in front of my husband only, and spoke very loudly that I needed to pick a 2nd item on the menu. Everyone looked over, and we ate in shame. She even stuck the receipt on our table shortly after giving me my 2nd item without saying anything. My husband didn't want to be left by himself in that uncomfortable situation, and his face was red, so he ate quickly to leave with me.

Really well roasted beef (such that it looks like its raw but its not) that is very soft and tender. Reasonable price for the amount of meat that you get. You can select from 3 different serving sizes (S, M, L) for both the meat and the rice, allowing you to customise your bowl accordingly to how you want it. Fair warning though, if you intend to select the larger meat portions then it would be advisable to have more rice as well otherwise you might get too surfeited from eating just the beef alone.

The condiments that you can add to the beef really help to elevate the flavor of it. I feel that the beef itself was slightly under seasoned (not enough salt or pepper) to being with, although you do get to add your own salt and pepper so it might intentionally done that way to allow people to season the meat to their own preferences

The soup was great and you can ask for a refill for up to 2 times. We ate at a time where we didn’t have to wait to enter but after we were done there was a queue outside so to and avoid the lunch/dinner crowds....
